Hotel at a Glance: Inn on Ursulines

Built in the 1700’s and once owned by legendary Voodoo practitioner Marie Laveau, Inn on Ursulines boasts all the hallmarks of New Orleans architecture one would expect from a historic building. Brick-paved courtyards, antique heart-of-pine floors, and balconies framed in intricate wrought-iron designs give the sense that the 15-room inn looks the same today as it did centuries ago.

  • Rooms are outfitted with pillow-top mattresses, air conditioning, Aveda bath amenities, and free WiFi.
  • Take a walk in any direction from this inn to see the historic homes and tree-lined streets of New Orleans’ French Quarter.
  • Bourbon Street, home to late-night jazz clubs and King-size hurricane cocktails, is less than one block away.

New Orleans’s French Quarter: Let the Good Times Roll

“Stop thinking of New Orleans as the worst-organized city in the United States,” writes author Dan Baum in Nine Lives, his post-Katrina book. “Start thinking of it as the best-organized city in the Caribbean.” Some folks think there is something distinctly foreign about New Orleans, a place where people’s priorities seem inclined toward enjoying life and relishing the moment at hand. Nothing says it better than the town’s unofficial Cajun creed: “Laissez les bons temp rouler,” or “Let the good times roll.”

Historical buildings with intricate wrought-iron balconies line the narrow streets of New Orleans’s French Quarter. Here, street musicians often fill the air with jazz music, their trombones and tubas swinging back and forth. Just off the Jackson Square park and near the towering St. Louis Cathedral, the legendary Café Du Monde serves beignets under heaping piles of powdered sugar. The nearby Frenchmen Street, just north of the Quarter, provides a slightly less touristy taste of New Orleans nightlife. Some of the city’s most popular live jazz and blues bars dominate this historic two-block district, with each venue hosting world-class musicians nearly every night of the week. And then there’s Bourbon Street, where neon lights advertise frozen cocktails and crowds gather along 13 city blocks.

I. Believe I was in a King size bed as it was so huge and comfortable. The place was the European style. The room was comfortable for two people and bathroom spacious. I fpund it very clean, the housekeeper was washing the floor when I arrived. The inn keeper was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Check in took no time at all.

First time to New Orleans Very cute place to stay. Great location in the French quarter walking distance to every where. Rooms are small so if your not planning on spending a lot of time in your room it’s fine. Unfortunately the rooms are not very clean. They need to do a good spring cleaning. The photos make it look much nicer then it really is.

Charming inn in the French Quarter on a quiet street I really enjoyed my stay at Inn on Ursulines. The property was charming and the staff warm and helpful. The room was spacious and very comfortable, if a little chilly in spots, as the heater did not really heat entire space, with a nice closet, full bath, comfy bed. It was also a very quiet stay which was very much appreciated. the rooms are off a small courtyard. There is fresh fruit and coffee offered in the lobby, and the rooms also have coffee makers. It is walikng distance to so many places you likely want to go, with a plethera of restaurants and shops all around it. One thing to note, as it might be a concern for some: my room had no windows and I believe that is true of at least all the bottom floor rooms.

Charm & location. I agree with the write up on the property, the location is perfect for everything that is french quarter. Bourbon street, Jackson square, all easily walkable. We liked that Bourbon street was right around the corner so we could walk and enjoy the New Years craziness, but far enough away that we could escape after midnight and not hear all the noise. The property is charming and boutique describes it perfectly. Comfy bed, Keurig coffee, Aveda bath products and clean rooms. My only nitpicks are that the sink drained really slow, and they appear to be repairing the street out front so there is a metal plate that clankclanks every time a car hits it. Nothing a sound machine couldn’t solve but still annoying. Every employee we encountered was delightful and knowledgeable with regard to our questions.
