Piney Point, Maryland: Former Presidential Retreat Flanked by Two Rivers

You won't be far from the water in most parts of Piney Point—the town occupies a thin stretch of land between the Potomac River to the west and Saint Marys River to the east. Piney Point's peaceful beaches and pine groves made it an inviting hideaway for such notable figures as Presidents John Adams and Teddy Roosevelt when they needed breaks from the hubbub of Washington, DC.

The Potomac still presents a tranquil spot to sit with a fishing pole as the sun dips below the horizon. On Piney Point's opposite coast, people fish for trophy bass and hike the wetlands at St. Mary's River State Park. A few miles away, the 19th-century Piney Point Lighthouse has been restored into a museum with historical artifacts and panoramic views of the shore. Board a canoe near the lighthouse and paddle along Saint George Creek to reach Saint George Island, home to beaches where you can spot crabs and sea turtles.

Super clean, comfortable and spacious. Great location even if it wasn’t oceanfront, it wasn’t a drawback!

This is a BIG NO. PleaseRead This a BIG NO. The trash was never emptied, the sheets had rust stains or old blood on them, the walls look like a child tried to put the shower rods up but kept missing the mark, the blow dryer didn’t work, the attendant kids were sleeping in the lobby at night, I was called a “this” (I am a POC) the ceiling had oil spots everywhere. When I left I left something in my room I came back within 10 mins and Brittney had “cleaned” my room. I ask the attendant at the desk if anything was found in the room, the lady stated that she need to call Britt after waiting a few seconds I went to my room to look for what I left. I asked Britt had she thrown anything away that wouldn’t be trash. She immediately said yes it’s in the trash. I began to look through the trash and as I was doing so she said there was a lot of trash in the room. I advised her NO one emptied the trash left outside the door so I had no Choice but to put it all together. After asking did she through anything away she said yes. I begin To ask why and started going through the trash. She said “have at it” did a hand gesture and walked away. So I went through the trash and found it. I tried doing the right thing and told the attendant that I had to open the trash and because there were no trash bags left I did the best I could. She then said that I “trashed” the room, though my videos state otherwise. Once back downstairs in the lobby I tried explaining to her that I had no where else to put the trash. I then called out to my boyfriend to get my phone (he was in the parking lot in front of the building and I was at the building door). She the told me “don’t do that go walk to him and ask him for Your phone”. As if I were the children that she had in the lobby. I felt very disrespected and I felt hate towards me. I’m 45 years old and a professional I know how to conduct myself. I retrieved my phone and took a video of the room which wasn’t Trashed. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE Needless to say she called the police on me and lied. Lady I have the video and you’re lying. My boyfriend said something wasn’t right and the vibe we were given was “get out” (the movie) when we first arrived.

This place is terrible and should not be an Ascend Collection hotel. The Ascend Collection is supposed to be the higher end of the Choice Hotel line. This hotel is not worry of the Ascend label and is more appropriate to be among Choice's Rodeway Inn or Sleep Collection. The hotel is at a very scenic location but the hotel itself leaves much to be desired. We were going there for a wedding and in order to get the special rate, I needed to phone the manager. It took me three attempts for someone to finally pick up the phone to inform me that it was the manager's day off. It then took me 15 attempts over 2 days until the manager (or anyone else) answered the phone. The physical room was not up to Ascend expectations. The shutters were not on the tracks and could not be closed correctly. Trim on the table was missing. The toilet paper holder was broken off from the wall (remnants of the old hardware was still on the wall) and was never replaced. The bathroom door did not close properly. The sink stopper did not work. The bureau draws were not properly aligned and did not close properly. Other guests had similar comments regarding the condition of the room. Breakfast was not up to par with Ascend expectations. The orange juice was partially frozen. Unlike other properties that supply pre-packaged items, it appears that hotel personnel are purchasing a larger size portion (for example of a cake or bread), slicing into individual pieces and then placing into individual ziplock bags. The personnel working the hotel are doing the best they can with what they have to work with and were helpful. It appears that the owners of this hotel are not putting any money into this hotel and running this place into the ground.

Loved it What a great hotel. And the staff were absolutely amazing. The GM Kim went above and beyond. We had an issue with our room and she immediately dealt with it. She changed our room and even brought us breakfast. The location is great; beautiful views, quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We will definitely be back.
