NoMa, Washington, DC: Architectural Landmarks near the Capitol

Perhaps the most visited site in NoMa is Union Station, though not for the obvious reason—in addition to handling thousands of passengers per day, the Beaux Arts structure is a landmark for its classic architecture influenced by the Arch of Constantine and Baths of Diocletian. Fine architecture is the norm in NoMa; it also has the Woodward & Lothrop Service Warehouse, once an upscale department store in the early 20th century. The building’s Streamline Moderne style earned it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

For first-time visitors to DC, the National Mall is a must-see. The vast swath stretches 2.5 miles east from the Lincoln Memorial past the soaring Washington Monument to the Capitol Building on the other end. Stop to see the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, which features a series of waterfalls, sculptures, and inspiring quotes from the 32nd president. The best time to visit the mall may be at dusk when the monuments are lit up and crowds are sparse.

We had a King bed room. The room was spacious. Check in was a breeze. Parking was included with the price from Groupon. Fridge and microwave would have been a bonus being the amount of space in the room. Union market is in walking distance. Very safe and peaceful.

Great option for a tourist visiting DC My friend and I decided to spend a couple of days sightseeing in Washington DC. We booked this hotel as it was cheap and within easy reach via the metro to the city centre. The whole campus was green and very beautiful. The twin rooms had two double beds and were very clean and tidy. The front desk was always polite and helpful and couldn't have done more to make our stay delightful. A 5 minute walk through the campus to Union Market filled with amazing food outlets was a real bonus. 15 minute walk to Noma Gallaudet University stop on the red metro line, one stop from Union Station made our trip to the city simple. Cannot find anything to criticise it was perfect and cheaper than many hotels that we could find in the area. The history of this amazing University for the Deaf was shown on the walls using old photographs and the older buildings on campus are very beautiful. The Conference Hotel is purpose built and is light and airy with beautiful views over the sports fields . Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting somewhere close to the city but with an interesting history but with modern facilities.

Eh… Parking is EXPENSIVE, area is NOT safe after dark. Room is nothing special. There is a shuttle to Union Station that is free. Despite what other reviews tell you, the Trader Joe’s is not close. It’s a walk, not next door, it’s a good walk through a bad area after dark. So you have to PLAN for dinner ahead of time. If you drive to say, Subway, then you have to plan for that too because there’s no place to park. It’s just not a convenient location. That said, my daughter needed a band aide and they had some at the front desk and she was really nice about it. Breakfast is an extra $25 pp. we did not elect to do that. If you go to Union Station to go to DC, I recommend grabbing food there on your way out, as there are only sketchy food trucks and museum food once you leave. I’d also recommend eating at Union Station on the way back so once you shuttle to the hotel, no need to go back out at night for food. I wish we thought of that sooner.

Best place to stay, they make you feel at home. Because of work I stayed a month at the hotel. It was great!! from day one, The Manager Andre and his staff Marian, Macy, Jasmin and two other gentlement in front desk. Made me feel at home for that month away from my family in Miami. The staff always has a smile and the are willing to help you in your needs. The lady that works at the breakfast always makes you feel at home. if you come to Washington DC. This is the place to stay!! Edgar Leal
