Hotel at a Glance: Kokanee Springs Golf Resort

Spread across more than 750 acres of mountainous terrain, Kokanee Springs Golf Resort is scenically wedged between a mile of shoreline along Kootenay Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Purcells. Some of the best views can be found at the 18-hole golf course, which was designed by Norman Woods. Featuring 66 sand traps and 12 water hazards, it’s a fun challenge for golfers of all skill levels. There are also nice views of the Selkirk Mountain Range and the Kokanee Glacier from the private balconies attached to the lodges of Kokanee.

  • Casual cuisine: Specialities at Woods’ Pumphouse Grill include homemade burgers, pulled pork, and outdoor barbecues on the deck.
  • Go biking or hiking: More than 6 miles of maintained trails surround the resort, including a 3.5-mile path alongside Crawford Bay’s creeks and bridges.
  • Soak up the sun at the nearby Kokanee beach off of Kootenay Lake or take a trip across the lake to the village of Kaslo.
  • Watch the birds: The Crawford Bay Wetlands provides a unique opportunity to view various species of birds during the warm seasons.

Crawford Bay, British Columbia: Lakefront Hamlet with Thriving Artisan Community

Nestled in the rugged Purcell Mountains of southeastern British Columbia, the hamlet of Crawford Bay is a stone’s throw from the eastern shores of Kootenay Lake. In the summer, these calm waters are a nice spot to go kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddleboarding. There’s a sandy beach here, too, where vacationers can swim in shallow waters warmed by the sun. Just west of the beach, a stretch of wetlands is home to wild swans, pelicans, and other migrating waterfowl that can be viewed from a short walking path. Since the lake doesn’t freeze in winter, fishing for massive Gerrard rainbow trout is a year-round pursuit.

Crawford Bay harbors a small but thriving community of artisans who create and sell jewelry, glasswork, textiles woven on old-fashioned looms, and other handicrafts along the hamlet’s main drag. Shops are typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, though some extend their hours into mid-October.

The rooms were small and the beds too firm. However they were recently painted and were very clean.

Great Golf course, relaxing environment! We camped at the Resort for a week. We enjoyed Full hookups. The Club House, Driving Range and Restaurant were all within walking Distance. Everything here was peaceful and relaxing and easy going, including Crawford Bay. The Golf course was exceptional, we played it every second day and Loved it. Challenging but sooo enjoyable!

Wonderful Place to stay and play! Absolutely a beautiful golf course! It is the best maintained golf course we have seen in a long time. Very challenging! Nice resort to stay at. The staff is amazing! Their restaurant should be a five-star! The food is amazing. We will definitely come back again.

Really bad RV park. RV stay in Meadows or as I would call it; parking lot. Somebody in ivory tower designed the RV park. Waste lines are too high. Water is 4ft tall. Spaces were doubled because they were too small for big Riggs. No pull throughs. Sloped instead of teared and it's serious. Wash house not finished. All fravel. Nothing for kids. Great golf course. Restaurant is good too. There is nobody in the park. You can stay free. Supposed to walk up a hill to the front desk for the hotel but they wouldn't know if your in RV area. Don't waste your time or money
