Lake Arrowhead, California: Exclusive Resort Town with Private Boating Lake, Shopping, and Skiing

It’s little wonder why so many city dwellers from San Diego and Los Angeles make the 2.5-hour drive to Lake Arrowhead. The town has a secluded natural setting in the San Bernardino National Forest in the San Bernardino Mountains, which have been called the “The Alps of Southern California.” In the winter, it’s great for skiing at resorts such as Snow Valley, and there are many boutique vineyards in the area open for tastings. In warmer weather, you can hit up its hiking trails. The 6-mile Deep Creek Hot Springs trail is good for beginners; for more of a challenge, hike a portion of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which passes Lake Arrowhead on its way from Mexico to Canada.

The community’s inarguable centerpiece, however, is the lake. It's privately owned, lending it an air of exclusivity, but guests at nearby resorts typically get access to its beaches and watersports. Fishing is a big draw in spring, when big bass, kokanee salmon, and trout are plentiful. Once the weather warms up, the lake becomes a hot spot for water-skiing—there's even a designated course that frequently hosts races. On the southern shores, you’ll find clothing boutiques, waterfront restaurants, and a free summer concert series at Lake Arrowhead Village. You can learn more about the village and see the lavish homes along the lake on the Lake Arrowhead Queen boat tour.

Excellent!! _ I don’t see how this resort has less than 5 stars! Everything was perfect from the atmosphere in the lobby to the cleanliness of the rooms!!! The fantastic customer service in the Bin 189 restaurant (I forget the bartenders name, but he had a gray goatee) and the warm hospitality from the front desk staff (specifically Michelle) were amazing! Every staff member we encountered made us feel welcome! Can’t wait to stay here again!!!! _

Skip this hotel I’ll begin with the positive, the staff and customer service are friendly and helpful. The negative: as others have previously stated, the hotel is run down. It’s in desperate need of a renovation. Upon arrival however, the lobby was decorated nicely with Christmas decor. The restaurant appeared to be well kept. The exterior paint was peeling. The interior is not up to par with a “resort”. At best it’s a 2 start hotel. The walls are staff admittedly paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING. Kids running back and forth upstairs had us packing a day early. I wouldn’t recommend it if you are thinking of a nice, relaxing hotel stay.

Super Pleasant Visit! My husband and I spent a couple of days at the resort just to get away to mountains, pines, colorful leaves and the lake. The staff at the resort was wonderful from arrival and throughout our stay. I have to provide effusive feedback for Brittney. We were given a beautiful view room initially but the windows didn’t open. (Upon entry it fel a bit claustrophobic.) so we called the front desk and requested a balcony room. Brittney came up quickly and took us to a room with an incredible lake view with a sliding glass door. It was perfect. She was so nice about it, saying she just wanted us to enjoy our stay. Neveah at check in was positive and professional and made us feel welcome. The shower water pressure was excellent and simple to figure out, just a handle (rare these days). The pool was warm and clean; jacuzzi temp could have been a little higher. Housekeeping staff was really helpful and kind. Only negative is that the carpet in the elevators could be replaced. Stunning scenery from the hotel.
