Montreal’s Shaughnessy Village: Densely Populated Neighborhood Close to the Old City

As the most densely populated neighborhood in Quebec, Shaughnessy Village has no shortage of places to go and people to see. Located just south of downtown Montreal, the village has a mix of towering residential buildings and locally owned bars, bistros, and cafés. It’s one of the city’s most cosmopolitan destinations, which means English is spoken here more often than in the rest of town.

A bus or Metro ride will bring visitors to Old Montreal, a neighborhood that feels like a displaced slice of Europe. The area has twisting bricked avenues and a pedestrian zone that recalls the city as it once was: cramped, bustling, and brilliant. Around a bend lies the Rue des Artistes, a narrow strait populated by painters hawking canvases.

Dates building and Rooms. Expensive Parking We booked two rooms, almost two months in advance. Even then the rooms were not even not on the same floor, but they were in different buildings. Parking was way too expensive. We stayed in downtown Quebec City where parking charges were $25 for 24 hours, and in downtown old Montreal parking charges were $25 max for 24 hours. The hotel charged us $33 plus tax, which was way too expensive. Our bathroom did not have any hooks to hang clothes.
