Miami Beach, Florida: White-Sand Beaches, Glamorous Nightlife, and Cuban Cuisine

Miami Beach is a small barrier island situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, a shallow lagoon that separates the beaches from downtown Miami. People from all over the world come here to enjoy the white-sand beaches, shop the high-end boutiques, and party at the legendary see-and-be-seen nightclubs the city is known for. The red-hot center of this sexy, international social scene is South Beach, a 20-block stretch filled with upscale lounges, rooftop bars, and ultrahip hangouts behind velvet ropes. Lummus Park beach is packed by mid-morning, and the clubs on Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue—many of which stay open until 5 a.m.—vie for the limelight with VIP service, celebrity DJs, and dressed-to-the-nines crowds.

Beyond the fast-paced luxury of South Beach lies Miami Beach’s softer side. A leisurely stroll through the Art Deco District reveals hundreds of beautiful, candy-colored buildings, including Versace Mansion—a 1930 manor modeled after a palace in the Dominican Republic that belonged to Christopher Columbus’s family. The centerpiece of the city’s arts scene, the Bass Museum of Art displays works from Peter Paul Rubens and Sandro Botticelli, and modern-design objects and propaganda arts fill three stories at the Wolfsonian-FIU museum. There’s also a handful of vibrant ethnic enclaves to explore here, and Little Havana is among the most notable. The neighborhood is lined with family-owned restaurants and Caribbean-style marketplaces, making it a great place to discover some of the country’s most delicious Cuban food, from sugary guarapo juice to pastelitos, or Cuban pastries.

Double charged for room night. No refund for 5 months Stayed here for 1 night in Oct-24 paid using Sonesta reward points. They charged both rewards points and also room rate of $300. Been 5 months still waiting for my refund. Nobody knows what to do management has no idea how does the reward point redemption work. At check out they told me it is a free stay and still charged my credit card. Also charged $30 resort fee for nothing as the restaurant was shut and this place is nothing like a resort.

Not or best hotel experience We recently stayed at the Lexington for a few days (before and after a cruise) and I couldnt honestly recommend it. The hotel is REALLY outdated and the whole place could badly do with a revamp. We stayed in a room on the 9th floor and everything was shabby and scruffed and the carpet even felt sticky, the place just felt generally grubby, even the lifts. The windows were absolutely filthy and in fact one pane of glass had been replaced with what felt like hard plastic which was falling out in one corner (on the 9th floor!) which was a serious safety concern. The bath in the room looked dirty although in fairness it was probably just worn but nonetheless I woudnt be inclined to take a bath in it! There was quite a bit of building work going on in the pool area also while we were there. The pool bar was closed there and the only other option is a bar just down the side of the hotel where you can get some burgers/chips etc and a pint but that was the extent of the food offering. The hotel was very noisy also especially in the early mornings when staff were coming on duty. There are one or two restaurants within walking distance (one really good Italian) for dinner but thats about it locally. The Collins Avenue free trolley stops outside the front of the hotel and the Big Red Bus also has a pick up point there. You cant book tours from this hotel but you can do so from their sister hotel a block up. The one big plus the beach is directly behnd the hotel and you get a free sunbed and umbrella if you are staying in the hotel.

So very sad, it didn’t have to be like this! We booked this hotel months ago. We needed a hotel for a short stay 1-2 days. To connect up with a cruise. Ok so we were flying all day to get to Miami from the West Coast of Canada. So the arrival time was 12:45am. That was known by the hotel. So why did we have to find out from reading a letter laying on the front check in counter that this hotel had NO WATER! From 11:00pm until 07:00? The front end person said nothing about this issue, until we asked! I said how will we brush our teeth, use the toilet and wash up for bed? Well she said there are 2 bottles of water in your room. Then she said maybe you could get 1 flush in! I replied that 2 bottles of water is not sufficient for our use. Well she said you could walk down to the CVS Store it’s open 24hrs and buy yourself some more water. I asked don’t you have any more bottles here? No she said I can’t help you. Next morning I see the chambermaids. I asked them. Can you please provide me with a couple of extra bottles of water. As we’ve used our 2 small bottles of water brushing our teeth and washing up last night, as the whole hotel had NO WATER. She said sure. She opened up a supply closet on her floor. Lo and behold case upon case of water. Now I don’t want to hear from MANAGEMENT “ SORRY WE WERE’NT ABLE TO MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF BASIC NEEDS” COME ON !!!!! IT DOES’NT HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS. I WOULD IMMEDIATELY FIRE YOUR EVENING SHIFT FRONT DESK PERSON. I WOULD IMMEDIATELY PROMOTE ANYONE OF YOUR CHAMBERMAIDS TO THAT POSITION!!!!
