Orlando, Florida: World-Famous Theme Parks and Cultural Surprises

Located in the center of Florida, Orlando may be forever associated with the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks—the world’s most-visited entertainment resort. Spanning roughly 30,000 acres, it encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, and the Disney Springs® Area. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day by boarding a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. Walk across the park to sample Moroccan cuisine for lunch, or ride a dune buggy through a haunted mansion. Before heading back to the hotel, take in the nightly fireworks, laser, and water show. One of the most popular family destinations in the world, sunny Orlando is also home to Universal Orlando—which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—SeaWorld, and Gatorland.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando's vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which hosts family-friendly improv shows five nights a week.

Awesome workers not so great employer/employee relationship I will say it was a nice experience. We met two really nice people that were very welcoming. Started with Shane he was a worker driving the golf cart around. Gave us a ride to our room when we got lost coming back from pool. Also there was Geon (I know I’m butchering his name) the bar tender at the bar/restaurant by the pool. Those two guys were very nice, professional and funny! They didn’t ack like it was just another day of work but like they were there to help us enjoy our vacation! Great customer service. I also need to give credit to house keeping! We rented two joining rooms three bedrooms and three baths two kitchen and two living spaces. Both were very clean and the little detail they left was great. I’m only giving this review a 4 because the experience at the bar/restaurant. I’m assuming the guy in charge I didn’t get his name. Due to his conduct I should be leaving less but I can not because of the other people I mentioned deserve better. The “boss” of that area came out not really yelling but talking loud enough to catch all of our attention to his employees. Just so disrespectful. I have never had anyone higher than me in a place of employment talk to me like that. If I would have I would have walked out. It embarrassed me and I wasn’t the one he was talking to. Not sure how you run business but drilling the cook that works in the back in front of customers is not it. Management training would be a plus!

Good for kids and big families The staff was very helpful and gave us an early check-in, which we appreciated, but no late check-out. I guess you only get one perk, even though I have a gold membership with other programs. The hotel is huge—our Uber drove us in, but they had to provide detailed check-in information. The guy at the far, far entrance checked if we were on the day’s check-in list. He was working in the brutal outdoor heat during Florida’s terrible June weather—I felt bad for him. Hilton really doesn’t seem to take care of their employees. From the entrance to the lobby, it’s a long, long way. Then from the lobby to the room, and from the room to the water park—it’s all a long way. We loved the water park; it was really fun with lots of slides. Unfortunately, my 2-year-old son wasn’t brave enough to try the slides. The water park is definitely better suited for older kids. We left the pool at 4 PM, leaving behind our sunscreen, milk bottles, snacks and water, as we had to grab something from the room. But after a long walk, there was a thunderstorm, lightning, and rain. Classic Florida summer. When it stopped at 6 PM, we tried to go back for our things, but the pool had closed due to the rain. I called the staff, but they couldn’t find our stuff. It was my fault for not realizing how quickly the weather can change in Florida. The room was like a suite—huge, with a kitchen and bathroom. It said there was a washing machine, but I didn’t find it until checkout. The TVs were pretty useless, even though we had two. We spent more time on the big balcony, watching ants carry their food. There’s also a small indoor playground for kids, but it’s not well-maintained. The toys were broken, and the cushions were dirty. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you’re traveling with a big family.
