Sacramento, California: Old-West Style and Rich Gold-Rush History

Sacramento—the present-day capital of California—made a name for itself in the mid-1800s when the first traces of the state’s rich gold deposits were discovered in nearby Coloma. Remnants of the iconic gold-rush era can still be found in Old Sacramento, a National Historic Landmark that spans eight blocks. Here, 19th-century buildings and wooden boardwalks line cobblestone streets punctuated by old-fashioned hitching posts. River City Saloon pours pints of sarsaparilla beer, and Munchies Salt Water Taffy doles candy out from wooden barrels.

At the north end of Old Sacramento is the California State Railroad Museum. Among the museum’s holdings are 19 restored locomotives, some of which date back to the Civil War. Nearby, the Crocker Art Museum—founded in 1885 by the widow of a railroad magnate—is one of the oldest continuously operating art museums in the western United States. Permanent exhibits range from an extensive collection of California art to international ceramics and classical European paintings.

OMG. Absolutely love this place. I bought a Queen suite for me and my fiancee 3 month anniversary. The suite is like a 1 bedroom apartment, with a jacuzzi in the living room. We love this room so much, we are paying for another night. Great place, The Receptionist Shreeta I think was her name was awsome great customer service rep.

GREAT STAY Being that this hotel was a part of Wyndham, they definitely made me feel like family. I’m an employee of Hawthron Suites by Wyndham in Livermore, CA. Everything was well put together thank you. Be back

The area Like I said the only complaint I have was the updating/fixing the central air other than that I really don't have any other negativity about the hotel. I loved the area I love the age and how historic the location is. I would love to stay there again but like I said I would love a room with working central air. Thank you

Decent bed and sleep I would recommend if you need a night or two of sleep for work. Beds are comfortable and the internet is good. The location is decent and lots of services are around in a 5 mile radius like restaurants, gas, shopping etc. Otherwise expect a transformed motel like setup...it's nothing too fancy or glamorous.. Weekends the main restaurant closes and there is no 24 hour dining options.
