Ashland, Oregon: Famous Shakespeare Festival and Rolling Hills near Wineries

If Ashland is famous for one thing, it’s the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Founded in 1935, OSF is one of the oldest nonprofit theater companies in the United States, and Ashland is its epicenter. Actors, directors, and designers come from all over the country to lend their talents to Shakespearean and contemporary plays for a season that runs from February through November.

Ashland’s offstage offerings are notable as well. Downtown Ashland hosts a popular farmers’ market each Saturday from May through October. Lithia Park, adjacent to the Shakespeare Festival grounds, is a pretty retreat from civilization: you can walk on paved paths through manicured gardens, or take to one of the rougher trails that go through the woods. Ashland is within a scenic two-hour drive of Oregon’s most beloved natural wonder, Crater Lake National Park. It’s also a short drive from dozens of vineyards, where you can sip wine amid southern Oregon’s bucolic scenery.

We had a lovely stay. We're a little concerned about the pending charge on our credit card since we paid with the Groupon, but hopefully that won't actually become a charge. Staff is very professional and service-oriented.

An Enchanting Dream Come True! Lithia Springs Resort is simply a dream come true! My sister and I booked two separate stays during our whirlwind trip up to Coos Bay from Southern California. After ten hours on our way up, we stayed in a perfect, hillside, double-queen suite. The road fell away once we checked in. Our lodging was large and wonderfully accommodating. It was so well-appointed with a great, fully-equipped kitchen, good-sized nook, private back patio, well-furnished living room and large bedroom area. It instantly felt like we were staying in a forest, the beauty of the nature and well-established gardens that surrounded us, literally took my breath away! (It was replaced with a long and relaxed sigh.) Just lovely! We were fortunate to meet the on-staff gardener Jan, who had decades of service with this beautiful property. Her love for the plants showed. We ran into her while we were enjoying the complimentary, house-made breakfast that was served by a most cheerful staff. We peacefully lingered over a delicious bowl of hearty oatmeal, freshly baked cranberry muffins and hot, soothing tea. The waters will revive you, and the Resort's thick towels will make your skin feel pampered and glowing. Take time to explore the grounds in the robes provided, after a refreshing dip in the perfectly inviting pool, or muscle massaging, hot jacuzzi. I could have lingered here for days, but the road and our visit to our dad in Coos Bay beckoned. Ahhhh, but we were wise enough to book a second stay just days later, on our way home! We then stayed in a spacious, patio Bungalow with a king-sized bed. The beds and linen are fluffy and absolutely welcoming, the one-room bungalow was large and also well-appointed. The waters (again) were extraordinarily healing. Traveling can be quite an undertaking, but with the enchanting dream that is the Lithia Springs Resort, all of the fun and magic of traveling are restored as you explore the beauty that is Ashland, Oregon. I know I will be back to further indulge in the Resort's stellar customer service, delicious and nourishing food, beautifully kept and flourishing grounds, rooms that you dream of and hope are a reality and mineral water that is nothing short of astounding. It literally replaces road weariness with ebullient energy. You will feel ready for whatever tomorrow's adventures will bring. Next time, I can't wait to indulge more in the private room tub, and wine tasting that's offered in the Resort's very own wine tasting room. I'd also love to have a spa treatment! Book a long stay, I wish we had... (Note: if you have a back door that is unlocked, your key will be rejected at the front door. This was the only vexing part of our stay.)

Peaceful Oasis We just completed a 4 day stay at this property and it was so peaceful, beautiful, comfortable and relaxing. We stayed in a hillside king suite that had a bedroom, living room/kitchenette, bathroom and in-room soaking tub. There was a private balcony overlooking the hillside that was perfect for morning coffee. The bed was so comfortable, like sleeping on a cloud. It was very hot in Ashland, but the AC worked really well and was very quiet. The grounds are beautiful. Lovely gardens with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the beauty of the property. Nice pool - a bit crowded in the later part of the day, but fairly empty in the a.m. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Tried the included breakfast one day. It was ok but nothing special, however , I think Covid restrictions had something to do with this. Overall, I would highly recommend this property. We will return.

Elegant Resort This is our third time staying here. We like it because it is out of town and has a beautiful garden. The resort is elegant and clean. The staff were helpful. The breakfast was good considering Oregon still has COVID protections. The private hot springs tub in the room was fantastic.
