Hotel at a Glance: Manhattan Beach Lodge

Manhattan Beach Lodge is located on Big Trout Lake of the Whitefish Chain, and has stood on the shores of Minnesota’s Big Trout Lake since 1929. In its early days, the lodge catered to wealthy residents of the Twin Cities and Chicago who wanted to get away from the city. More than 85 years later, Manhattan Beach Lodge still feels like a rustic hideaway with handcrafted pine furniture, a stone fireplace in the lobby, and a picturesque setting in the Minnesota Northwoods.

  • A room with a view: All of the lodge’s guest rooms face the lake and offer unobstructed views of the region’s colorful sunsets.
  • Start the day right with a complimentary breakfast served each morning. (Breakfast will consist of individually wrapped items)
  • Lakeside dining (Tuesday - Sunday): Visit the onsite full-service restaurant and bar Manhattan’s, winner of WCCO’s “Best Dockside Bar in Minnesota” award. Please call and make a dinner reservation prior to checking in. This Getaway comes with $20 dining credit per stay.

Crosslake, Minnesota: Rural Northwoods Community Surrounded by Lakes

Lakes practically outnumber people in Crosslake. The community overlooks dozens of small lakes, including the Whitefish Chain of Lakes, which spans 119 miles of shoreline. It offers plenty of outdoor fun in all seasons, from swimming and boating in the summertime to ice-fishing for blue gills, crappie, walleye, northern pike, and largemouth bass in the winter.

Crosslake’s quaint town square is a great place to shop for local arts and crafts, handmade chocolates, and fishing equipment. To see more of the region, hop on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway. It passes right by the town square and wends throughout the Whitefish Chain of Lakes, passing numerous scenic vistas and historic sites on the way.

AMAZING ATMOSPHERE, AMAZING STAFF If I was able to rate this place more than 5 stars I would. I highly recommend this place to any and everyone! To start, when checking in we were immediately greeted by the amazing staff, and was shown how to use to new door code plus was told that there had been a recent renovation of the place. The room and atmosphere was beyond expectations! Now to get to the restaurant portion. Again, amazing. How can you beat such a beautiful place to be at? The food, drinks, and staff were fantastic. When went to go have dinner and was greeted by the manager Crystal, she was so nice! We did not have a dinner reservation but she was so accommodating and was able to squeeze us in! She has to be one of the nicest managers I’ve ever met! She found out it was our anniversary and even brought us a completely dessert! The staff overall was so great but Crystal was definitely the best of them all!

Everything was great EXCEPT FOR THE MANAGER Upon arrival there was no one at the front desk. We had to go look for someone. The rooms have been renovated and are nice. Hallways and exterior still look rough. All members of staff BESIDES the manager were absolutely awesome. Each member of our six person group experienced a rude and belittling interaction with Crystal the manager. After reading reviews I see that she has specifically been called out for her poor customer service skills. This is something that ownership may want to address. For us personally, we may go back for the outdoor patio, tiki bar and boat docking. But we will not be staying at the resort again, which is sad because we are repeat guests.

Love the ambiance and the food; treated very rudely by staff. We had dinner outdoors. We were seated immediately. No one came to our table to serve us until the manager came by. We sat for atleast 10 minutes. We had dinner and then were informed by the server that we needed to leave in 5-10 minutes because they needed the table. I had just ordered a second glass of wine. Very rude and inconsiderate to make us wait and then order us to leave before we had finished dining.
