Hotel at a Glance: Margaritaville Beach Resort Grand Cayman

Margaritaville Beach Resort embodies the laid-back island style of songwriter Jimmy Buffett. Guests pass a larger-than-life statue of a flip-flop as they enter the lobby, then settle into rooms with tropically themed accents like palm trees. The resort is located in a private cove at the beginning of Seven Mile Beach. Right outside the resort, a white-sand beach awaits.

  • Island breezes waft across each guest room’s private balcony.
  • Nod to Cristopher Columbus: Eating House1503, named after the year Christopher Columbus first spotted Grand Cayman island, serves up local produce prepared with Asian-infused techniques.
  • Signature margaritas made with house tequila are poured at the poolside bar.
  • Live music ranges from reggae to classic rock.

Grand Cayman: Family-Friendly Destination Populated by Sea Turtles, Stingrays, and Blue Iguanas

Early in 2012, the New York Times recommended Grand Cayman—the largest of the three Cayman Islands—as 1 of 10 winter getaways for families. The Times praised the island for its easy-to-access flights and kid-friendly activities, such as the Cayman Turtle Farm, which hatches and releases green sea turtles, and Stingray City, where visitors can touch dozens of Atlantic southern stingrays and feed them bits of squid. Adult-centric pursuits include the North Sound, Blue Tip, and Britannia golf courses, all located on the westernmost area of the island, known as West Bay.

Farther inland, you can find some of Grand Cayman’s most elusive residents—blue iguanas. Native only to Grand Cayman, the lizards were driven to the brink of extinction through habitat destruction and the introduction of cats and dogs to the island. But recent conservation efforts by the Blue Iguana Recovery Program have begun to restore the population. Today, hundreds of blue iguanas shelter in protected areas such as the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and the Salina Reserve.

Highly Recommend! The hotel was very nice and had such a great location in close proximity to the airport, Atlantis, and the world famous straw market! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and truly made you feel welcome. Breakfast at the Vacation Cafe is Delicious and Mark is such a great server and will make sure you’re taken care of! Brightmon and the front staff are all helpful and can help get you a taxi on a moments notice and help schedule excursions like Powerboat Adventures and others that will help you enjoy all that the Bahamas have to offer! Overall it was an incredible experience and will definitely be visiting the Bahamas again soon!

Celebrating my Mom pre-pandemic, thank you! It’s taken me months to write this review from my trip in January 2020, but I wanted to share our experience. Before we even arrived, I reached out to share that we would be celebrating my mother’s 70th birthday and I’d appreciate anything they could do to help it be a special occasion. The replies were prompt and friendly giving me comfort we’d have a good trip. As the day approached, my mom received a difficult diagnosis and we weren’t sure we’d be able to go. So happy we did. Upon arrival we experienced the age of the hotel. Poor drainage in the bathroom, some staining and I’d thought I paid for a room with a better view. We were disappointed and I shared my concerns with the staff. I was told they would take care of it and to please go and enjoy the island, so we did. Free drinks upon arrival (for all guests), yummy nachos and a gorgeous beach and ocean view. Returning to the front desk, (the best manager ever) Davina Bennett personally showed us another room she already inspected to ensure it was ok and then got another staffer to grab our bags even though we already had them. She escorted us back up to the room and ensured we were ok. Throughout our stay, Davina checked in with us, had a special birthday gift delivered to us, and made sure we enjoyed our few days on the island. The other staff, from the bartenders to the wait staff to those working through various jobs were friendly and helpful. Although we had some bumps (and early morning roosters) we truly had a beautiful time. I’m even more grateful for it now, given where the world is with the pandemic. I’m hopeful they are able to operate again as they did earlier in the year so others can experience what we did.

Good if you don’t need electricity The resort stopped paying their electricity bill. So if you don’t mind paying $600 a night for hotel with no electricity , then this place is for you. Enjoy a night of candlelight with your significant other!
