Blown away! We stayed 4 days as part of a wedding event and were blown away. Morgan's rock is beautifully located overlooking the sea, the villa we stayed in was clean and comfortable (not to mention nicely designed), the food was excellent. The staff were all friendly, responsive and overall made our time there so enjoyable. Their committment to sustainability is admirable and should be taken as an example. Highly recommend!!!

Resort at a Glance: Morgan’s Rock

National Geographic, Condé Nast Traveller, and Frommer’s have all recommended Morgan’s Rock, a Nicaraguan eco-lodge that overlooks the Pacific Ocean from a private nature reserve. Inhabited by howler monkeys and tropical birds, the 4,000-acre property is also home to an organic farm. At the edge of the resort is a mile-long stretch of private beach where turtles may be spotted nesting and hatching.

  • Direct beach access: From this hotel’s doors, it’s only a short trek to the private beach.
  • Make a splash in the hotel’s outdoor pool.
  • Elevate your experience: Perched on a cliff amid the treetops, ocean-view bungalows are designed to blend in with the natural surroundings.
  • Farm-to-table dining: The restaurant sources about 60% of its ingredients from its own farm; each stay includes breakfast.
  • Things to do: Yoga classes are held several times a week.
  • Soothing escape: An open-air spa housed in a palapa eases stress with massages.
  • Environmental practices: Morgan’s Rock was nominated for World’s Leading Eco-Lodge in the 2018 World Travel Awards.
  • Each king size bed has an “Evening Breeze”, which is an ecofriendly, 100% silent, air conditioner above the bed; it cools, filters and dehumidifies the air it releases.

San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua: Undisturbed Tropical Wildlife and Popular Surf Spots

Situated on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, San Juan del Sur has been a favorite of in-the-know surfers for years thanks to its year-round warm waters. Many visitors head straight to the soft sands of Playa Maderas. Here, surf shops dot the streets closest to the beach, offering lessons and boards for beginners and veterans alike. Offshore, the waters are calmer and filled with marlin, yellow tuna, and snapper—making this a perfect spot for deep-sea fishing and snorkeling.

Although most of the action takes place along San Juan del Sur’s crescent-shaped bay, the gorgeous scenery inland is also worth exploring. About an hour and a half drive north of San Juan del Sur lie the Mombacho and Masaya volcanoes. The 4,000-foot Mombacho is dormant, but one of the Masaya craters still emits smoke and gas.

Total vacation package Lovely hidden escape that feels remote but safe and welcoming. We celebrated a wedding with friends and it was festive, relaxing, exciting (surf lessons), and all with great weather and excellent service. Food is tasty, rooms well appointed, staff there to help. Thank you!

Hidden Gem We stayed at Morgan’s Rock for over a week. The bungalows are breathtakingly beautiful. Our bungalow was one situated up on the hill we were able to hear and see the wildlife in its natural form. We were overlooking the jungle staring straight at the sea. Sea views in front and the bay to our right. We enjoyed our infinity pool during the day and relaxing on the beach in the afternoon watching the sunset. We went on the sloth and monkey safari and was not disappointed. We went hiking up the hills on foot and on horseback. The service was great and the staff were really friendly. Highly recommend a visit if you ever find yourself in Nicaragua.

Beautiful eco lodge My family and I stayed in a 2 bedroom villa for 4 nights. The villa was spacious, well done and provided excellent views. The monkeys playing in the trees and howling in the morning were an added bonus. The beach was beautiful and clean. Meals were delicious and the service was on point. I had a massage and the experience was nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and enjoyed all of the interesting aspects of staying at an eco lodge.
