Mount Hood, Oregon: Forest Hikes, Trout Streams, and Ski Trails on Volcanic Peak

Mount Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon, reaching an elevation of more than 11,000 feet. Though it’s technically an active volcano, it hasn’t shown any real geothermal activity for more than 100 years. It’s the towering centerpiece of Mt. Hood National Forest, which stretches across more than 1 million acres of lakes and forested mountains. During warmer seasons, visitors pick berries, fish on Mirror Lake, and hike along some of Oregon’s best trails. The 1-mile trek to Buried Forest Overlook culminates in a dramatic view of White River Canyon, a woodsy spot that was buried in ash and mud during one of Mount Hood’s long-ago eruptions.

Though winter is the mountain’s most popular ski season, the slopes at Timberline Lodge and Ski Area often stay snowy through Labor Day. Across the mountain at Mt. Hood Skibowl, you’ll find several miles of cross-country and downhill trails as well as one of the country’s largest nighttime ski areas.

This was our last resort from an air bnb and we absolutely fell in love with the place!! We went night swimming in the spa pool and it was an amazing experience. We are already planning our next stay there. The service was great and their breakfast was delicious. We would highly recommend.

The staff are so friendly and helpful, they helped us with everything we needed! The location is wonderful and it is so great for people with pets because of the enclosed wooded area that the patios open up to.

Spacious beautiful resort Loved this hotel! Stayed in a ground floor room with a terrace overlooking the grounds to the pool. Huge room with all the amenities, including my very own over- sized bathrobe to wear to the pool. Spent one afternoon at the pool relaxing and enjoying the trees, landscaping, and jacuzzi. Staff worked hard to be helpful. It was not crowded during the week. Like a private retreat!

Beware. The website is misleading I did not stay. I checked in, got to my room, then promptly booked another hotel. I was charged for that night, but was refunded the second night. Best Western should be ashamed of this hotel. The pictures on the website are very misleading. The room I checked into was dark and dusty. It didn’t even have a coffee table. The chair in the bedroom was fake leather and totally trashed. It had a kitchenette without supplies, it had a full size coffee pot with a single cup pod for coffee. Both tvs in the suite had exposed wires and cable boxes. The exterior is very shabby and dark. There is even a sign not to leave valuables in car. That instantly tells me to worry about crime.

Not a pleasant stay The room was dark and unappealing. Needs some serious updating. Upstairs guests sounded like they were going to come through the ceiling. AC too loud to run…room was stuffy.
