Guanacaste, Costa Rica: Forested Mountains and Legendary Surfing Beaches

The province of Guanacaste in northwestern Costa Rica takes its name from the Guanacaste tree, an umbrella-shaped species also known, less picturesquely, as the earpod tree. These trees blanket the slopes of the Guanacaste and Tilaran Mountains, helping to shelter the coastline from rainstorms and keep the beaches warm and dry.

Stick to the shore of bustling Playas del Coco and you'll find plenty of waterfront activities as well as lively nightlife. But it's worth heading farther afield to take in some of the province's national parks. Starting in October, Marino las Baulas National Park serves as a major nesting ground for leatherback turtles. And in the north, Santa Rosa National Park is known for its legendary surf breaks, including one featured in the documentary The Endless Summer II.

Beautiful place, fantastic view of beach, hillside landscape and wooded mangrove to view monkeys and an abundant variety of birds. Fantastic rooms with A/C and huge near full wall windows to view landscape from indoors. Great infinity pool, dining and poolside bar. Staff was nice and very helpful. Short walk to the beach, a mangrove with crocodiles, a local store and several local soda eateries.

Full potential not realized Very hard to review this property. The pool, public areas and gardens are beautiful also very clean. The rooms are very large and ours had a fabulous balcony with great views but the rooms are very sparse with no pictures or colour. There is absolutely nowhere to hang your clothes also no hooks in bathroom for towels or robes. The staff are very nice and try their best but have obviously not been trained so no idea what they are doing. Not what you would expect from the overall experience which could be 5 Star. There are buggies to run you around if the walk is too steep or too far between reception, the pool, your room etc and I liked the fact that there is a what's app number which is responded to if you need any help. Very quiet and a taxi ride to town but our group liked this.

Amazing family vacation Melania was absolute amazing! She made us feel very well taken care of and gave us 5 star service every time in the restaurant! The food was very healthy fresh and tasty. The room view was amazing! The rooms were always clean and very big! Luxury like our own bathroom in the USA. Juan from pool bar was serving amazing drinks! Esteban was very professional and friendly! All staff excellent! My kids are so sad it’s the last day of our trip! We are going to return next June! The beach was very private with almost no tourists. Amazing hotel overall!!!

Nammbu Bungalows We spent several nights here with our kids. It was a beautiful location - the pool area was great and the views of the beach were spectacular. The facilities were very clean and the rooms were large. The breakfast buffet was nice. There were a few things that should be improved: - there were no bathroom doors. I cannot understand how a place like this can have multiple people staying in a room with no door on the bathroom. We spent a lot of time planning who would go use the washroom and shower at which times - it would have been nice to have more to do for the children. They could really use a games room or some kind of entertainment. The vibe was more peace and quiet than family friendly. I would highly recommend renting a car in Samara for travel back and forth. There are excellent cafes and restaurants in Samara. Would very highly recommend El Colibri steakhouse which is a 2 minute walk away. The restaurant at Nammbu was more expensive and of lower quality (food and service) than the options off the resort.
