Olympic National Park: Forests, Mountains, and Colorful Tide Pools

Olympic National Park can feel like three parks in one: you can find everything from snowcapped mountains to ocean tide pools to ancient forests. One of the best ways to explore the sprawling wilderness is to drive on Highway 101, which circumnavigates the Olympic Peninsula. The highway zips along the Pacific coastline, passing plenty of scenic outlooks and trailheads. After a scenic drive, delve into the forest via the Peabody Creek Trail, which makes a half-mile loop from the visitor center’s parking lot. Most trails are open year-round, with opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

One of Olympic National Park’s most appealing features is its tide pools filled with aquatic plants and animals, such as the giant green anemone that looks like a blooming flower. You can explore the tide pools at low tide all year long, but the best time to visit is in the summer, when rangers host informative programs.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL 1/10. We were so disappointed in this “resort”. The photos online are highly deceiving. They portray a clean modern resort and what you really get is a run down, dirty motel setting. The floor in our room was very slanted, we actually measured the angles on our phone. It was so angled that our kids stumbled in the night and the imbalance made me physically sick to walk across. It feels like you are in fun house. We went down to speak with the manager and they told us they could switch our rooms for $100 per night “upgrade” charge. The front desk staff was very abrupt and cold. There is no way this hotel floor is structurally sound. Our room smelled like cigarettes. It’s one redeeming quality was the stairs to beach access but it is NOT worth the price we paid. Overall a terrible experience and we would NEVER stay here again.

Beautiful ocean view and very good restaurant Reserved a two bedroom suite with fireplace and huge windows looking out at the ocean below. It's a little dated, but that's OK because it was very comfortable and easy to relax in that room. Don't know about the others. The pool is across a busy road and when I went over in my car I couldn't figure out where the entrance was so I didn't walk over and use the pool area. Pricey in the summer, but worth it for now.

25th anniversary trip Beautiful view, quiet and peaceful. We stayed here for our 25th wedding anniversary. Our room was newly renovated on the 4th floor. The beds were comfortable, the room very clean. 4/5 because the shower head is a fine mist/drizzle that shampoo does not rinse out well, so taking a bath was more effective and probably used less water. The only room/maid service we needed was to get a working coffee maker and more k cups. Within ten minutes we had the coffee and maker. A larger fridge would be nice, since the restaurant is only open for dinner. 3 grocery stores within minutes away that we purchased groceries for breakfast and lunch. Since, the fridge was so small we had to make a couple trips to the store. Dinner (teryaki steak bites and steak) were delicious and the service was fantastic. The prices are fine for a celebration dinner, however would be too much to have eaten there each night. The fitness center and pool are across the street. We used the fitness center, it had many workout machines to use. Never received confirmation email, checked spam folder not there. Prices seemed to match up for what we were told when making reservations.
