Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: Miles of White-Sand Beaches

When Christopher Columbus landed on the Dominican Republic more than five centuries ago, he described it as "a beautiful island paradise." Punta Cana, located on the island's easternmost tip, lays legitimate claim to that description. The coast stretches for more than 20 miles and is dotted with coconut palms, chaise lounges, and laid-back bars. Glitzy resorts feature prominently along the shoreline, but Playa El Cortecito, a short drive up the coast, harks back to earlier times. Brightly colored thatched-roof shacks line the beach, and local fishermen bring their boats to shore each afternoon with the day's catch.

This resort is beautiful. The food was OK it was a hit or miss on the restaurants and staff were very friendly. The only thing that we didn’t like was that we spend it almost 2 hours with some sales people and they told us they were going to take us to breakfast and show us the resort and it ended up being a sales meeting. Other than that we had a great time.

Enjoyed, Nice & relaxing…..Will not return Visited for two week over the Easter Holidays, as a family of 3, paid over £8k for this holiday.……. On arrival we were not greeted so just had to wing it and guess to what was happening with bags and check in. Ended up at the wrong check in desk and after a wait were moved to a different queue to wait further to check in. Minor issue but could have been a lot smoother. Once checked in we were introduced to our butler, Jose. This guy is certainly an asset to the hotel, he literally couldn’t do enough for us. If you ever read this José and visit the uk, get in touch, I’ll repay the many favours you did for us. Jose showed us to our room dropped off via golf buggy, explained all about the hotel, and gave us a WhatsApp contact number for him, which I think is a great idea. Any restaurant reservations, needs, questions we could just text directly to Jose and he almost immediately got it sorted. The whole holiday was very relaxing, the food was excellent, good selection of drinks, and service was prompt. Our hotel room was slightly dated, but were clean and maids did a good job each day at keeping them clean, always plenty of towels. As much as they were relaxing and comfortable, it was almost impossible to sleep past 8am though, due to noise. Staff, trolleys, reversing carts for deliveries all started around that time. For the money we have spent on this I don’t think we got value for money. Although I havnt too many complaints about the hotel and facilities, I have enjoyed my stay. BUT,…….even though I’ve enjoyed my time here, I will not be returning. Due to one member of staff from the “Sales” team within the lighthouse building. I won’t be mentioning names but this man made me feel worthless and treat me disgustingly infront of my child and wife. So… we were asked to attend a welcome meeting, promised massages, gifts if we were to attend, we obliged. This welcome meeting quickly turned into a sales pitch to sign up to their hotel club / time share kind of thing. Over an hour was spent with a rep, and we advised we were not interested. This wasn’t good enough answer for them, so he called over his manager as if we were trying to buy a used car off them. This manager was shockingly rude, we again said we are not interested, his reply is “why are you even here then?” As if we are wasting his time. I explained we were under the impression this was a welcome meeting, if anyone’s time is being wasted it’s my holiday time I’m spending listening to your hard sell. He eventually ended the meeting, shook my hand, but then instantly went to wash his hands. I’m all for cleanliness but this wasn’t about being hygienic, he did it in such a manner it was meant as an insult to me. He also stood on the back of my bare foot, which caused it to bleed, I’m aware accidents happen and I would normally be fine with that, but no apology was offered from him or anything. The whole VERY hard pushy sales pitch is a disgusting tactic and needs to be addressed. We couldn’t walk from one side of the hotel to the other without being stopped and asked if we wanted to attend this ‘welcome meeting’. Obviously certain staff are given commissions when obliging tourists attend these meetings. Once in there though you a horrendously treated, insulted, belittled, and humiliated if your not interested.
