Cambria, California: Coastal Village with Art Galleries, Beachfront Hikes, and Elephant Seals

The coastal town of Cambria lies about 10 miles south of San Simeon, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Though the village is small, it has a host of attractions, including 30 art galleries in the downtown area and an oceanfront boardwalk at Moonstone Beach.

Just 11 miles north lies the famed Hearst Castle, the enormous estate that once belonged to newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The building took more than 25 years to complete, has more than 150 elaborate rooms, and houses an astounding collection of Spanish and Italian art and antiques. Tours crisscross the 127-acre estate throughout the day, acquainting visitors with the grand rooms, cottages, kitchens, and libraries.

Very nice and clean rooms! Staff was great and food at restaurant was wonderful. Very cozy and warm atmosphere. Our king room wasn’t ready so they bumped us into a suite. Will stay again.

Better customer service and pricing Had to sit in the parking lot and wait for 30 minutes while clerk returned from break. The rooms are nice but not at par with what is charged. TV remote was not working properly. I liked that it was next to the shore and I could go for walks in the beach and trails next to it.

Best relaxing place. We have been here 3 times and enjoy the staff, location and relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family. Do not tell too many people how special this place is because it’s nice and quiet. My wife and I will be returning here every year.

We have a great time. This hotel is great, it has a walking path to a small beach. The property itself is beautiful lots to do in terms of activities. The only complaint is that the room has no microwave and closet and the patio is not fenced. But all in all the room is clean and we enjoyed the facilities the property has to offer. It is pet friendly our dog Bella enjoyed it so much.
