Hotel at a Glance: Olympia Lodge
This old-fashioned lodge on California’s Monterey Peninsula feels secluded, yet it’s within walking distance of almost everything that draws vacationers to the area. It’s adjacent to the West Coast’s oldest continuously operating lighthouse and a five-minute walk from the beach and coastal walking trails. A half mile to the north is an 18-hole golf course, and a half mile to the southeast are downtown Pacific Grove’s galleries, shops, and restaurants.
Where you’ll stay: guest rooms feature hypo-allergenic comforters, refrigerators, and coffeemakers.
Wooden furniture and exposed beams lend charm to rooms.
Distance from the coast: about half a mile
Pacific Grove, California: Sleepy Coastal Town Next to Monterey
The oceanfront town of Pacific Grove shares its central California peninsula with the city of Monterey, but is far more serene than its cosmopolitan neighbor. Rows of Victorian houses line the streets, deer wander through residential areas, and thousands of butterflies congregate here during their southerly migration. Travel + Leisure named Pacific Grove one of America’s Best Little Beach Towns, noting that the beach is better suited for surfing and kayaking than swimming. Stroll the pathway that winds along the rocky shore, taking in the many native plants and bird colonies that make their homes on the 3-mile stretch.

The room was wonderful. It was in a great location. It's just about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the beach. The room was quiet and nice. I would definitely recommend it.

Great Hotel This is our go to place to stay. We visit the Monterey area a lot and have chosen The Olympic lodge as our hotel. Its clean, comfortable, very quite, has great staff, located in the perfect spot, and reasonably priced. It is located very close to the ocean, and golf course. The eateries are also very close and the drive into Monterey is beautiful

Not accomodating or flexible DO NOT STAY HERE. We had a two-night reservation and had a last minute family emergency. We tried cancel over 24 hours before our scheduled check in, but since it wasn't 72 hours, they denied even a partial refund. They refused to budge even an inch to accomodate a family emergency, despite our obvious distress. Given that this is high season in the area and the would very likely be able to re-book the room, probably even at a higher last-minute rate to someone else, it seemed very inappropriate to refuse to work with a distressed family. If you value kindness, please book your stay elsewhere.

Wouldn’t stay again The toilet didn’t even flush and it smelt a bit weird and there were holes in the bedding. They also ran out of parking spaces very quickly and had to park on the road. It was okay for the night but wouldn’t stay again. It was nice a warm though lots of covers.
