Bretton Woods, New Hampshire: Luxury Resorts with Year-Round Recreation in the White Mountains

In the early 1900s, the town of Bretton Woods attracted wealthy visitors from Boston, New York, and Philadelphia who were eager to escape the bustle of city life. Every summer, they flocked to the town’s luxury resorts to enjoy the fresh air and picturesque setting amid the White Mountain National Forest. One of the first such resorts, the Mount Washington Hotel, hosted the 1944 United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, which led to the establishment of both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Today, Bretton Woods is a year-round destination for mountain fun. The community has two golf courses including a restored Donald Ross-designed classic, a full service spa and endless outdoor activities. In winter, 464 acres of snowy mountainsides comprising nearly 100 trails, glades and one terrain park dominate the skiing and snowboarding scene in winter. In the spring and fall, you can still enjoy the mountains: miles of hiking trails lead to rushing waterfalls and spectacular vistas in nearby Crawford Notch State Park. Or go for a drive on the Mt. Washington Auto Road—its scenic course winds through the national forest to the summit of Mt. Washington, the highest peak in the northeastern United States.

No impressed When we arrived on 1/3/25 my husband took a bad fall on ice in front of the hotel. Staff helped however never took a statement or wrote an incident report. Kind of upset the resort didn’t even offer us complimentary coffee or anything for that matter . Even the following days we were here never once checked in on him . For such a well known resort we are not happy and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone What is even sadder is this review will never hurt the hotel

Splendor and amazing staff Hotel is a splendor that everyone should experience at least once. Ed was a knowledgeable and excellent tour guide who you can tell us very proud of the state and history of property. Ervy was our waitress for breakfast both days, took our family photo and was so cheerful despite how busy it was. Every meal here was excellent! Highly recommend a stay here.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! This resort if full of screaming kids and family dogs. Beyond that the food is some of the worst I have ever had. Very bland, comes out within 5 minutes of ordering and cold. There’s a dress code posted for the main restaurant 1920 but when you go in there are guests in pajamas. Really an embarrassing restaurant. This is not Omni standards but more like Motel 6. Would not recommend at all. Drinks were also horrible at all the bars.
