Fresno, California: Valley City Close to Three National Parks

As one of the largest cities in central California’s San Joaquin Valley, Fresno is a hub for travelers headed to nearby national forests and parks. It's considered one of the gateways to Yosemite National Park, located roughly 60 miles north. The park’s 1,200 square miles of wilderness are peppered with waterfalls, giant sequoia trees, and granite cliffs—one reason Travel + Leisure considers the park one of America's Best Family Getaways. Biking and hiking trails crisscross Yosemite, which also plays host to horseback riders, rock climbers, and, in winter, cross-country skiers.

There are two other national parks within easy driving distance of Fresno: Sequoia and Kings Canyon. These sister parks lie in the Sierra Nevada mountains and are home to deep canyons, caves, and some of the world’s largest trees. You’ll see the largest one—the 275-foot General Sherman—while strolling on wildflower-fringed paths through Sequioa’s Giant Forest. For an unparalleled view of the Sierra Nevadas, hike up the 400 steps chiseled into the granite of Moro Rock within Sequoia National Park.

It was nice facility but dated and a funky "old" type smell. I gave it a 5 star because of the staff. I left a fairly expensive jacket there and they were honest and not only called me but held it until a family member in the area was able to retrieve it. There was a very sentimental item in the pocket that was still there when I received my jacket. Having a staff that displayed honesty and integrity gained them a 5 star in my book. That went further than anything.

EXCELLENT Budget Hotel - Clean and wonderful breakfast. Great!!! We really appreciate this hotel. Instead of paying for a multi million dollar renovation and jacking up the prices they are keeping travel affordable by maintaining what they have and making a stay at their hotel really nice. The fixtures and wallpaper/curtains feels like the 80s but clean and well kept. The beds are comfortable, everything was clean and there was plenty of space in the room. The HOT breakfast was excellent with so many delicious options. Even our picky eater children were able to fill up before a long drive home. They even had one of those cool pancake machines that make them fresh in front of you - they taste better that way. We emptied out our car of valuables as the front desk advised but our care was safe overnight with no break ins near us at all - there were so very nice cars in the well lit parking lot near us too. Overall we would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to budget-conscious traveler friends as well.

choose another hotel Pool and spa are closed. Breakfast was not included because I "booked online" according to the front desk person. Water is being wasted everywhere I looked. Overall just an unpleasant experience, I would look elsewhere for a hotel next time.

Worth paying more to stay elsewhere I was sucked in by the low price and arrived to find myself in a rundown, dump of a place. It’s like it’s been frozen in time circa 1960s. For example, I’d never encountered a tap/faucet that you have to pull towards you to get it to work. Everything is ancient. Despite these shortcomings, I could have probably stayed for the three nights booked had it not been for the guy in the room next door. Loud phone calls until 1am prompting me to change rooms. But that wasn’t much better because the whole place literally creaks! If you are in a first floor room, you will hear even the slightest of movement from anyone immediately above. After hardly any sleep, I cut my losses (because I’d paid in full in advance) and moved to a much nicer, modern hotel directly opposite. You can do so much better in Fresno than this dive.
