St. Pete Beach, Florida: White Sands and Beach Bars near St. Petersburg

Consistently ranked among the top beaches in the United States, St. Pete Beach sits just south of St. Petersburg on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The town’s historic district, Pass-a-Grille, is lined with specialty shops and bars with lively decks, and a white-sand beach points into the bay like a ship’s bow. The district is also home to the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, where volunteer docents share interesting facts about the secret histories of the beachfront’s iconic houses and hotels.

Fort De Soto Park, about 10 miles from St. Pete Beach, is a good place to experience Florida’s natural beauty. The park features piers and shallows for fishing, a canoe trail, and the Paw Playground, where dogs can play unleashed. More outdoor recreation awaits at Merry Pier, where pelicans congregate in the gentle waters and fishermen angle for their next catches. For a dose of civilization, walk among the shops and restaurants of revitalized downtown St. Petersburg, or step into The Dalí Museum, which showcases 96 oil paintings, drawings, and photographs by famed surrealist Salvador Dalí.

Nice hotels. There are 3 hotels to choose from. Plaza Beach on the beach and Bay Plaza and Bay View on the marina side, across the street from the beach. Well appointed and nice amenities. All rooms have a kitchenette, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, etc. But the best part these hotels have is the services from a very friendly and accommodating staff.

A throwback to the beach motels you remember in the 1960s, It was clean, inexpensive, had a small pool with a nice little bar area and a huge beach. All of the staff (hotel and pool bar) were very, very helpful in every regard. The room had a small kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffee-maker. You are not going to confuse it with the Four Seasons but the staff makes up for the shortcomings in the motel not being the most modern. It was exactly what I remember from family beach trips in the mid 1960s.

Will come back I booked this hotel after researching others in the area. I look for hotels on the beach with rooms with balconies and cabanas/umbrellas/ lounge chairs on the beach. I also look for beach service but can forego that if I go with friend. This hotel did not disappoint. I booked a gulf view balcony room which was on the second floor. There are other gulf view balconies that are not on the second floor so make sure to request it. The balcony and view were worth the price. The beach lounge chairs and umbrellas cost $30/day ($25 if you tell them you’re staying at the hotel) and you have the use of them til 4pm. If you leave for lunch or other reason, leave your towel on the chair and you’re good to go. I had a couple of drinks in the bar and the bartender steered me right on a local beer. We went to Publix which is on a shopping center up a little ways and across the street to stock up on breakfast and lunch food. We didn’t visit the happy hour but I’m sure it was a hit. The rooms were clean and the customer service was top notch. I’d definitely stay here again.

Stay here or you’ll regret it! ♥️ Trust me when I say… you WANT to stay here! A group of 6 of us were here celebrating our friends bachelorette party. They were the most fun welcoming hotel I’ve ever stayed in! They not only put up with all of our shenanigans but were part of the fun too! They were very accommodating, able to meet any request, and even set up a makeshift napping station for a hungover friend in need upon our arrival. They even got us checked in 4 hours early and gave us great suggestions on spots to eat/drink/party. They have a great pool, lots of outdoor activities, great beach access, really everything you could want from a beachfront resort. Sheldon, Shane, and anyone else we dealt with at the desk we all love you! Can’t wait to stay with y’all again on the reunion trip.
