Green Mountains, Vermont: Historical Towns Surrounded by Wilderness

Named for the layers of stately evergreens that carpet their slopes, the Green Mountains are a branch of the ancient Appalachians that stretches north to south through the center of Vermont. It’s a relatively even swath of rolling forests capped by a few summits that rise above the tree line, including Mount Mansfield, which tops off at 4,393 feet. The landscape is home to other rugged scenery, including alpine lakes, and more than 900 miles of mixed-use trails for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

The mountains are punctuated by quaint Vermont villages where white church steeples border organic farms and creameries. At the midsection of Green Mountain National Forest is the city of Rutland, which plays host to summer outdoor concerts and the Vermont State Fair. About 70 miles north is Vermont’s largest city, Burlington, which is known for its breweries and boutiques.

The Vermont Forward Plan brings changes to cross state travel rules, including quarantine and testing requirements. The Vermont Department of Healthy provides cross state travel guidance for Vermonters traveling out of state, visitors to Vermont, and international travel. Additionally, as part of traveler guidelines, guests of lodging, campgrounds and other accommodations must complete a Certificate of Compliance.

Skiing Okemo - Great simple hotel. Very nice hotel for the area. Lots of skiers stay here as the price is very reasonable for the area. Nice pool and hot tub. A spa is up the hill, so some of the pics you see online are really the spa which is not connected to the hotel. I used the spa on a past trip. Very nice to do as the entire town dies down about 9pm.

in ski season Mid-week stay The room was large, clean, and quiet. There was a problem with the heating unit, which was quickly fixed. It is old fashioned motel like window unit that is fairly noisy. There is a hot tub and pool, which is nice after a day of skiing. Disappointedly is that there is no breakfest available in hotel or even nearby during the week, only on weekends. This was not the case when I was there several years ago. This is a big minus for a hotel several miles to open restaurants in Ludlow. Price is on expensive side considering amenities, same as paid for a downtown Hotel in Boston

A clean, quiet and comfortable motel, but expensive. Our stay at The Pointe motel was good for 2 weekend nights, but expensive with no breakfast or daily room freshening. You could get room supplies upon request and they would be left outside your; however, ou room was quiet and clean with comfortable beds. The room was antiquated as you had to search for charging plugs for your phone and tablet. Also, the Wifi was weak and not secure? If we visiit our friends again, we may stay here again ?
