Corning, New York: Glass and Art in the Historic Gaffer District

Corning is best known as the hometown of Corning Incorporated, which has been manufacturing glass and ceramics since 1851. A century after its founding, the company opened the Corning Museum of Glass, dedicated to the art, history, and science of its primary product. The collection includes thousands of items from antiquity to the present, helping the museum become the town’s top tourism draw. It’s just across the Chemung River from the Rockwell Museum, which specializes in fine art that reflects the American experience. Both museums are located in the historic Gaffer District, where you’ll also find eclectic shops and some of the best dining in town.

DIRTY DRAB and DISGUSTING ! FILTHY hotel -looked like the carpeting in the lobby and hallways had never been vacuumed. We heard it was going to be renovated to be a Hilton Doubletree which can't happen soon enough. Even the furniture in the lobby was DIRTY with stains all over several chairs. Dingy looking walls - bed was old and lumpy . The whole place looked VERY run down and didn't even smell clean. We literally checked in and then immediately checked out and went over to the Hilton!

You should go a small step further to have repeat customers. Everything at the hotel level was good. Bed-clean and comfortable. Room- clean and had all things needed. Staff-kind and respectful. Music in lobby/ outside- wonderful surprise! Restaurant- big let down. Would not honor our free wine coupon, even after they said they would. They then charged us the crazy price for our wine. We were told we didn’t meet requirements for getting it free, even though our food bill for two people was $85.00. The next night we were listening to music and went to buy a few glasses of wine and we got end of bottle, very small pours. But were charged full expensive price two times out if 4 glasses bought. Just go the extra mile folks. We felt very taken advantage of. Kudos to hotel staff. Boooo to restaurant management.

This place is a “Yes” The staff here are very friendly and this hotel is right on Market Street, which makes a lot of attractions walking distance from the hotel. The beds were comfortable and rooms well appointed. The hotel bar/ restaurant had great food and great staff. I highly recommend staying here for your visit to Corning.
