New Orleans’s French Quarter: Let the Good Times Roll

"Stop thinking of New Orleans as the worst-organized city in the United States," writes author Dan Baum in Nine Lives, his post-Katrina book. "Start thinking of it as the best-organized city in the Caribbean." Some folks think there is something distinctly foreign about New Orleans, a place where people’s priorities seem inclined toward enjoying life and relishing the moment at hand. Nothing says it better than the town’s unofficial Cajun creed: “Laissez les bons temps rouler,” or "Let the good times roll."

Historical buildings with intricate wrought-iron balconies line the narrow streets of New Orleans’s French Quarter. Here, street musicians often fill the air with jazz music, their trombones and tubas swinging back and forth. Just off the Jackson Square park and near the towering St. Louis Cathedral, the legendary Café Du Monde serves beignets under heaping piles of powdered sugar. The nearby Frenchmen Street, just north of the Quarter, provides a slightly less touristy taste of New Orleans nightlife. Some of the city’s most popular live jazz and blues bars dominate this historic two-block district, with each venue hosting world-class musicians nearly every night of the week. And then there's Bourbon Street, where neon lights advertise frozen cocktails and crowds gather along 13 city blocks.

Great budget stay for visiting New Orleans Excellent location. 15 min drive to French quarter area. Very large rooms. Beds were excellent. The hotel is located at the service road of I-10 which was a plus for those driving in. The attached ihop restaurant is a good place for food. There are few other restaurants nearby including a 24 hr coffee shop

Not a Good One I booked a room here through Expedia, pictures looked alright. It was going to be for one night because the next morning we were leaving on a cruise. We arrived around 7PM and went into the lobby, I felt unsure about the hotel, so I ask to see our room first. The lady said no problem and gave us the room key. When we opened the door to the room, roaches went running the other direction. One went under the bed and the other went into the closet, my daughter got her phone and took a picture of the one in the closet. I went to the front desk and told them we would not be staying, they ask why, and I discreetly showed the pictures to the lady and a man at the desk. The man was very nice and explained I would have to contact Expedia and Expedia would contact their manager, and it would be no issue with a refund since we had pictures of the roaches. The lady there was not as nice, she looked at the pictures but did not really say anything to me about it. When Expedia called the hotel, they were told we stayed the night, checking in around 11PM and that they did not have roaches. The manager did not approve my refund. I even called the hotel, but the manager would not speak to me. She told another employee to have me email the pictures to her, which I did. She never responded to my email with pictures that clearly showed the roaches. I could have caused a scene at the hotel because there were several people in the lobby, but I didn't. I would not post this review either, but the hotel refused to give me a refund plus they lied about us staying there. Please be aware this place does have an issue with roaches, which anywhere can have but they acted like they have never had problems with bugs plus they aren't willing to tell the truth.

Just OK, won't be back Stopped here late night on a New Orleans trip. You get what you pay for. This isn't a destination hotel. I couldn't image staying more than one night here. All Wyndham hotels seem to be run down these days. The beds were rock hard and the staff was not very friendly. There is a pretty amazing restaurant across the street that I highly recommend. If you are in this area, you HAVE to go to Ron's Gumbo Shop. Some of the best food I've had in NOLA.
