San Jose, California: Silicon Valley City near Wine Country

San Jose lies in Silicon Valley, less than 60 miles from San Francisco. It’s neighbored by Mountain View and Palo Alto, where tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Intel have their headquarters. You can learn all about the region's rise as a computer-industry powerhouse with a visit to the Tech Museum of Innovation, or see the results of the area’s affluence in its many fine-dining restaurants, shops, and cultural offerings. A thriving arts scene is anchored by institutions such as the San Jose Museum of Art and Symphony Silicon Valley.

For a taste of pre-microchip San Jose, check out the Winchester Mystery House, a purportedly haunted mansion filled with as many architectural oddities as spirits. Outside of town, the jagged Santa Cruz Mountains and rolling valleys have rich soils for growing grapes—conditions that have led to the establishment of more than 30 wineries producing pinot noir, syrah, and zinfandel.

Worst Managed Marriott Property Ever Encountered I stayed at the Residence Inn San Jose South for a week in February. I was in San Jose for work, and I opted for the Residence Inn because it’s within walking distance of our office. When I checked in, it quickly became clear that this was NOT going to be a good stay. When I handed the woman at Reception my corporate AMEX, she embarked upon a confused series of questions about how the room would be paid for. Bewildered, I assured her that it would be charged to the card in her hand. Near the end of this conversation, she picked up a call from a guest asking if there were any clean towels. She shouted to another staff member to check, and the answer was “no.” The woman asked if I’d like my room serviced, and I replied in the affirmative. When I found my room, the trash from the previous guest was on the floor by the door. There were dirty sheets on the floor by the door across the hall. The room itself was fine, dreary and rundown, but fine. There was ONE bath towel in the bathroom. I left for work on Day 1 at 7 am and returned at about 5 pm. The room at not been touched, and there were no clean towels. I called Reception and asked why the room had not been made up; I was told that I was not “on the schedule.” I asked for clean towels and they said that they’d send some. The towels arrived about 20 minutes later. At the end of Day 2, the room was untouched again. Annoyed, I walked to Reception this time. I asked if rooms were ever made up. The answer seemed to be yes, but the schedule was not clear. But, the woman said she would “mark me down for a FULL clean” the next day. Dubious, I took some towels and went back to my room. There was trash and sheets everywhere in the hallways. At the end of Day 3, the room was made up, and I was happy to see that I had two (!!) bath towels. That was good, because the pattern returned to normal on Day 4. No service. A number of people at the event I was attending were also staying at the Residence Inn. One found her room in such bad shape, that she refused it and went to another hotel. The rest all talked about the trash, sheets, and towels in the hallways at all hours, and the lack of almost any service. At checkout, I learned that there was a nightly parking fee. (Contrary to the free parking mentioned above.) This is a hotel in the suburbs, with an open lot. I don’t believe anyone had mentioned the fee, and I thought it was ridiculous for a rundown hotel in the burbs… but I didn’t complain. I was just glad to be leaving. I won’t be going back, and I’d recommend others avoid the place. If you do go, you might want to bring your own towels.

no hot water At check in I asked for a room on a high floor, he told me he did not have any, but don't worry theres no one above you. which clearly there was, I could hear them walking and stomping. No problem , they were quiet after 9pm. The room was clean and decent enough, until it was morning and time to take a shower. No hot water. they were nice enough to move me, but I ended up forgetting a small canvas bag in the old room that completly dissapeard. the front dest person said nobody had been in the room but there was a luggage tag in the trash that was not mine and my little bag was not there, as it was the only place I could have left it. Would I stay agian, probably but I'd make sure I have hot water before unpacking, since moving rooms in a rush in the morning caused me to leave something behind, yes I know that is my fault, but the item should not have dissapeared.

Good hotel for families It is a family friendly hotel in San Jose area, not far away from the airport. The two bedroom suites are quite spacious. Hot breakfast is served, which simplified the stay. Meanwhile, there are super markets just across the street where buying essentials are quite easy or cook by yourselves.

Consistent and Clean Clean, quiet property and typical of Residence Inn. The staff were very friendly and the best comfortable. Breakfast offered enough variety for everyone with fresh fruits available. Parking adequate and check in/ check out very easy. Easy access to freeway. Be sure to try Five Star Pizza right across the street!
