Hudson River Valley, New York: Gilded Age Estates and Historic Villages

The Hudson Valley begins just north of Manhattan, stretching upward along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers all the way to northern Westchester County. The area is known for massive Gilded Age estates once belonging to powerful names such as the Rockefellers and Roosevelts. Hyde Park, just north of Poughkeepsie, was the latter family’s home base; today it’s where you’ll find the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. Another village of historical interest is Sleepy Hollow, the setting for Washington Irving’s classic story about Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. Irving is buried in the cemetery here, along with several famous industrialists including Andrew Carnegie and Walter P. Chrysler.

Situated just outside New Paltz, Minnewaska State Park Preserve is one of the region’s most peaceful natural settings; come for the waterfalls, winding carriage roads, and stunning fall foliage. The valley also includes the state’s capital city of Albany, where visitors can learn more about the area and beyond at the New York State Museum.

Woeful I stayed at this hotel because there weren’t many options close to my daughter’s camp and this one connected with a bus service from New York. The room I booked was expensive and in the older part of the Casino complex called The Adler. My room was woeful with a number of issues - including loud, ineffective, air con, no product in the dispensers in the bathroom, broken safe, dirty table. There was no one at reception in the morning with a sign saying “unattended” and the whole place feels unsafe because there is no one around. Eventually reception was attended so I tried to move rooms to the main hotel tower (which I’ve heard is better) but was told it is all booked out also tried to move rooms within this hotel but because I’m going to be at the camp during the day this doesn’t seem to be able to be accomodated. My advice is avoid this hotel.

The Worst Experience Ever I made a reservation in for July 21-22. I got there late on July 21 at 7 pm. after a long visiting day at camp. The nasty front desk person told me that they didn’t have the room for me that I reserved. I was furious and told them that they cant do this and asked to see the manager. He then told me that they have a room, but it needed to be“made up”. I waited one hour at which point my sister went over and blew up at them. They didnt care. The room that i booked fir $449,00 was now going to cost us $690.00 with all the fees they added on. It was now 8:30 pm and they wouldnt nake any accommodation due to the delay. The checkout time the next day was 11 am and we still hadn't gotten a room so we decide it wasn't worth staying and we left. I will never stay at this hotel, and I would recommend that anyone trusts the hotel to stay there.

Not sure where they get there staff? These are the kind of folks working here. Scary to think these kind of people work at this place. Not any place I would want to stay again. Don’t you do back ground checks?? I would never recommend anyone to this place where evil works. Not ever!!
