Texas Hill Country: Pastoral Landscape of Ranches and Rivers

A picturesque region of rolling hills and valleys covered in bluebonnets in spring, the area of central Texas known as Texas Hill Country has been compared to the landscape of Tuscany by the New York Times. Texas Hill Country is a backyard playground for nearby cities, as it lies just west of Austin and northwest of San Antonio. Urbanites often escape here for the weekend to enjoy the slower pace and beat the heat—the region’s slightly higher elevation means it’s often less humid. With many state parks and spring-fed rivers, the Hill Country is also a haven for outdoorsy types; activities range from fishing and tubing to rock climbing. The Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is popular thanks to its main attraction: a gigantic pink-granite dome in the middle of the park.

What Happened To The River Inn? There is lingering smell of sewage outside the apartments. All 4 units that we rented toilets were running non-stop. The management company is overbearing and focuses on the wrong things. We were asked to turn down music volume when it was fully appropriate. There is a lack of supervision of kids. We used to love this place because it was filled with memories of our grandparents but it’s not the same. They need a serious overhaul on management and facilities. Don’t know if we be back, sad.

Environmental nightmare Don’t breathe too deep! You’ll inhale black mold management covers up instead of addresses properly. May as well use outside for restrooms as often as the plumbing and septic fail right next to the river. Place needs to be cleaned up right or condemned before the sewage hits the river and/or someone files a lawsuit because the mold made them sick. Electrical nightmares, too.

A gem in the Hill Country, especially in off season! I’ve been coming to River Inn for years but this was my first fall here and it was beautiful! The property itself was gorgeous and so relaxing. Lots of activities to do like canoeing, fishing, or just sitting around fire pits. They even provided fire wood for us! My room was very clean and relatively modern. These are condos so it’s luck of the draw with your room but I’ve never had a “bad” room. I also really like the layout of the condo with bedroom in the back, so even if people were outside at night I couldn’t hear them. Each room also has a great view of the river which is what you’re there for. This resort is such a great value and I will always come back refreshed from my stay! I recommend River Inn to anyone for a relaxing, quiet, and peaceful fall retreat!
