Property at a Glance: Rolling Huts and Methow Tents

The North Cascades National Park in north-central Washington almost completely surrounds the small town of Winthrop. Inside, you’ll find Rolling Huts, Methow Tents, and farmhouses—three types of accommodations that help guests get up close and personal with nature.

• Methow Tents feature spacious canvas tents set on wooden platforms. Each one comes with windows, carpets, and two cots, as well as an outdoor picnic table, water faucet, and electrical outlet.
• Rolling Huts feature modern, Scandinavian-style huts filled with modular furniture, a kitchenette, and sleeping platform with mats. Each hut comes with access to full bathrooms and showers a short walk away.
• The Farm House is a three-bedroom wooden building, recently remodeled to accommodate up to eight visitors.
• Community features: bathrooms and showers, a volleyball court, and a restaurant
• Alpine adventures: Go rock climbing in the Cascades, follow hiking and mountain-biking trails, or experience whitewater rafting on the Methow River.

Winthrop, Washington: Old West Town Surrounded by Forests

Lake Chelan National Recreation Area in north-central Washington borders the small town of Winthrop. Set in a scenic valley carved out of the Cascade Range by glaciers, the remote region attracts hikers and mountain bikers in the warm months and cross-country skiers in winter. Spring and summer are ideal for viewing wildlife and boating on the narrow, fjord-like Lake Chelan, one of the nation’s deepest bodies of water.

In the 1970s, Winthrop underwent an overhaul to pay homage to its gold-rush roots. Today, it looks like it might have in the 1880s, with hitching posts, Old West-style storefronts, and wooden-plank sidewalks. To get in the spirit of the era, you can watch cattle drives and medicine shows or wet your whistle at the oldest legal saloon in the state.
