Seaside, Oregon: Coastal Beauty Surrounding a Family-Friendly Town

Located along Oregon’s Pacific coast, about 80 miles northwest of Portland, the resort town of Seaside has attracted beachcombers since the late 19th century. More recently, the coastal village has become a family destination marked by historical buildings, tree-lined boulevards, and plenty of kid-friendly activities, including mini-golf, bumper cars, and arcades.

A 1.5-mile oceanfront promenade—known locally as the Prom—stretches along the beach, its boardwalk speckled with shops and restaurants near grass-covered dunes. Along the Prom, you’ll find a bronze statue of Lewis and Clark that faces the ocean at the historic Seaside Turnaround—the spot where the explorers are thought to have ended their epic westward trek. The Seaside Aquarium is also located along the promenade. Pop in to visit its aquatic residents, including a giant Pacific octopus, tropical fish, and several crowd-pleasing harbor seals.

Strong Pet Urine scent in room. The hotel had great reviews, so we chose to stay here. I didn’t realize it was a pet friendly hotel. When walking into our room, there was an overwhelming scent of pet urine. We opened our windows to see if that would alleviate the smell, but no such luck. If you have pet allergies, or do not like the smell of pets, I would recommend selecting another hotel, or ask if there are rooms available that do not allow pets. Pros: close location to the beach and shopping.

You can tell that ownership cares about making your stay a good experience. Staff were all very friendly from the moment we checked in. The lobby area is nice and has a mellow vibe. If you pass through the lobby, there are some nice outdoor sitting areas and a small playground on one end, which our 4 year old enjoyed. Complimentary ice water and lemon water, as well as cookies that seem to be put out around check-in time, are a nice touch. You can tell that there is an effort being made to make the place nice. Our king/balcony room was bright and clean, the bed and pillows comfy, and we enjoyed the modern fixtures in the bathroom. The included breakfast is a standard hotel hot breakfast (make your own waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, cereal, etc). The staff keeps everything well stocked, and it definitely gets the job done. The noon check out time is also a fantastic feature! My one critique is the pool. It seems to be the most neglected aspect of the place. It's OK, but it just seems a bit dingy. The ceiling is peeling in several places; and the pool itself was too cold for my liking. There is a relatively spacious hot tub, though, so I warmed up in there. I admit that I may be pickier than most when it comes to the pool, though, and the pool itself was very clean at least. All in all, it was a great stay and would definitely stay again.
