Dallas, Texas: Rejuvenated Urban Districts and Historical Parks

Though some know Dallas only for the massive AT&T Stadium (which is actually in Arlington), the city is also an enclave of arts and nature, overflowing with botanical gardens, art galleries, and live theater. Historic Main Street connects many of the city’s recently rejuvenated urban districts, as well as the popular Main Street Garden, a block-long public park surrounded by architecturally significant buildings.

A short walk from downtown Dallas, you’ll find horse-drawn carriages clopping along brick streets in the city's historic West End district, which dates back to the 19th century. This part of the city also contains Dealey Plaza, where President Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963. At The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, housed in the former Texas School Book Depository, you can visit the spot where Lee Harvey Oswald is believed to have shot at Kennedy’s presidential motorcade.

Massive elevator issues A few good things (decent buffet breakfast with a small club lounge as well, open lobby with good seating, good bar and bar service) but an incredibly broken elevator service. Unfortunately soccer teams were staying there (and a dog convention) and there is no getting around the difficulty in the elevator issue for all those folks. Waiting for a Monday just made it hard. We were happy enough to take the stairs but it sure looked like lots of folks struggled. Many of the reviews about location and noise are spot on as well. Plenty of other good options nearby.

At best 3 Stars. Bring your ear plugs. First impressions always start with the check in experience - ours was miserable. We checked in at 21:00 but that is no excuse for poor service. We didn't really feel welcome, indeed we felt we had interrupted them even though we were the only people checking in. Just what you need after a 10 hour flight in our case. To obtain a breakfast we had booked and paid for a Club Room. We were given the keys and pointed towards the elevator. I just checked to clarify we had a Club Room and she said no. We then had to get out the paperwork to show we had booked a Club Room and then after much consternation we were told we did have Club access but more in a way that we had been offered an upgrade rather than giving us what we had paid for. At best the room can be described as just about OK and if you were on the road side elevation as we were, even on the 14th floor the traffic noise was excessive. A multiway highway with 24 hour constant traffic and sirens. How could you build a hotel so close to the highway without double or secondary glazing? The 1980 style air conditioner in the room even on it's lowest setting was in competition with the highway for noise. The view from the 14th floor could be good if they gave the windows a clean. One night I went to the ice machine on the 14th - it doesn't work. I walked down to the 13th, that didn't work either, fortunately the 15th floor did. Yet again this is another of those hotels where you have to request room servicing and reconfirm every day. Why? Isn't it a hotel? On the positive side there are some lovely staff here. The breakfasts were nice, the Wi-fi was good and our room had a very modern large TV. However, unfortunately the negatives outway the positives on a scale of 5 to 1 and I can't recommend this hotel.
