Niagara Falls, New York: Spectacular Waterfalls at United States–Canada Border

Every second, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water cascade down Niagara Falls. You can watch the water spill over jagged cliffs from pedestrian bridges and observation decks. The best view, though, might be from the Hurricane Deck, a wooden platform located 20 feet from Bridal Veil Falls. From spring to fall, you can access the platform by taking the Cave of the Winds tour, during which professional guides lead poncho-clad visitors to Bridal Veil Falls via wooden pathways. For an up-close encounter with the falls, you can book a ride aboard the Maid of the Mist; the tour boat shuttled sightseeing guests to the base of the thundering Horseshoe Falls for more than 100 years and continues to operate on the American side of the falls.

Millions of tourists have flocked to Niagara Falls since the early 1800s. Around that time, Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger brother honeymooned in the area with his American bride; scores of newlyweds followed in their footsteps, earning Niagara Falls the nickname of “Honeymoon Capital of the World.” But it's not just romantics that flock to the border town; it's also a family-friendly destination, thanks to its indoor water parks, an aquarium, arcades, and casinos for the 21-and-older crowd. For outdoorsy types, the 400-acre Niagara Falls State Park offers miles of hiking trails.

Avoid- view great but service an amenities sub par Avoid. At first we were wowed by the view and location. After traveling over 7 hours we checked into a sweltering room and realized the AC did not work. Before heading out for dinner, we stopped at the front desk for assistance. We came back 3 hours later and the unit in our room was turned off and the room was hot and sticky. We turned the unit on only to do discover it was still blowing warm air. The maintenance worked let us know it just isn’t going to get cold because it is tied to the outside temp and we should open the window. This meant loud noise from the strip and a nauseating smell of cigarette/cigar smoke I suspect coming from the streets below or neighbors. It was awful. They offered to give us a fan or to move to another room (at 9pm) with two small children after traveling all day. They were hot, bothered and sleepy. Front desk deferred us to call back in the morning to speak with a manager again about moving rooms, but couldn’t guarantee we could control the temperature. First night with three to go and miserable experience for our family vacation so far. What a let down. Enough in one half day to know we will never come back.

Great Family Fun This was an amazing stay for our family! We surprised our kids with the hotel stay on Sunday night since we had appointments in Buffalo early Monday morning. They were so excited! We loved the aquariums by the pool and of course swimming in the pool, the kids loved the elevator rides, dinner at the cafe was good, and the arcade was super fun. Everything was clean and well-kept, and the staff was very friendly.
