Orlando, Florida: World-Famous Theme Parks and Cultural Surprises

Located in the center of Florida, Orlando may be forever associated with the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks—the world’s most-visited entertainment resort. Spanning roughly 30,000 acres, it encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, and the Disney Springs® Area. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day by boarding a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. Walk across the park to sample Moroccan cuisine for lunch, or ride a dune buggy through a haunted mansion. Before heading back to the hotel, take in the nightly fireworks, laser, and water show. One of the most popular family destinations in the world, sunny Orlando is also home to Universal Orlando—which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—SeaWorld, and Gatorland.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando’s vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which hosts family-friendly improv shows five nights a week.

New rooms noisy A/C Started in a renovated room which was nice but the AC was incredibly loud. Sucked it up the first night. Said something the second day. The front desk offered to move me, but I asked for them to just have someone check it out instead. Went to work all day came back. It was just as noisy. I asked if anyone came in. They were not aware, but they said they are sure someone did. Went to bed again, because I did not want to move. A second terrible night of sleep. Went down and complained again. They said someone would go up. Came back from work and the front desk was not sure if anyone went up. Asked them to send someone in again after 5pm. Left for dinner, when I came back, they still couldn’t tell me if anyone went in a second time but they were sure someone must’ve. I went back up to the room. It was still just as noisy. Came back down asked for a new room. New room, it’s almost as noisy but still unacceptably loud. So got a third room and it was almost normal air conditioning loud for hotels. The hotel did say that they get a lot of complaints about how loud the AC is. While I was moving those, I went into a maintenance guy in the hallway and I asked him about it and he said no one had called him. Some of the other people I was working with were also staying there and complained about the same thing. At least one of them was offered earplugs from the hotel.

Maitland Sheraton Marriott Hotel While the hotel had its merits, it was rather sweltering indoors, and the staff appeared lacking in empathy. Moreover, there was a shortage of towels and extra toilet paper, and I found myself trapped in the bathroom due to a faulty door handle. The bed proved to be exceedingly uncomfortable, and the rooms exhibited a slightly outdated aesthetic. The antiquated window unit, though effective in maintaining a cool temperature of around 74-75 degrees, made for a somewhat uneasy sleeping experience.
