Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains: Hiking, Trout Fishing, and Historical Towns

The Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania accounts for some 2,400 square miles of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and forests. The area has been a popular vacation destination ever since Pennsylvania Quakers opened a hotel here on the Delaware River in 1829. Today, the Poconos draw more than 25 million annual visitors, thanks to year-round recreational opportunities and stunning natural scenery.

The warmer months are a great time to explore the region’s lakes and wooded hills. For spectacular hikes, check out Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, where you can trek to dramatic waterfalls or follow a 27-mile section of the historic Appalachian Trail. A handful of little towns full of antique shops and galleries nestle in the mountains, too. You’ll find boutique wine galleries and historical mansions tucked away on country roads, including the late 19th- century Asa Packer Mansion, which is open for tours, in the borough of Jim Thorpe.

Cozy Inn Clean, cozy inn - the most comfortable bed - modernized bathroom - accommodating, friendly staff - beautiful lakefront view - close to restaurants and some fun things to do. The only thing is they only offer Apple TV so it wasn't just turn it on and go. Would absolutely recommend this as a great spot to stay at!

Deceived. Nothing at Silver Birches is as it appears or as promised on their website! We were DECEIVED wasting almost $1000 ( not including meals and drinks!) on our 2 day Labor Day weekend trip. Silver Birches time has passed or maybe it never was the idyllic vintage “Best Resort” in the Poconos. the website falsely claims - the tired unkempt grounds ,the sparse lawn and Adirondack chairs covered in goose poop and neglected, crumbling walkways and buildings in need of paint or at the very least power washing to clean the clapboard siding and remove the moss on the roofs putting beautiful lake Wallenpaupack to shame! Our room at “The Lakeshore” Room L2 - promised a view of the Lake - if you could call it a view it was obstructed by an enormous weed bush and the still standing trunk of a dead tree. The balcony was uninviting not private and offered plastic flimsy chairs that had to be wiped down- upon entry- I wanted to check out as soon as I entered our musty moldy and damp room!!! Far from the cozy promise of the website… w 2 uncomfortable small chairs too big for the space - If that was considered a 2016 renovation- it’s time for another one- Or at the very least provide a functional dresser, and a real closet- not a broom closet with a full bag of damp rid in it. The bathroom was almost bigger than the room - the shower design forced water out on to the floor- unless you kept your body up against the shower wall! I spent half my morning mopping up the water w the 2 robes we never used! And the mini split air conditioner was loud and constant. The windows barely opened to let fresh air in and lacked screens- I could go on and on .,, The worst disappointment was the mistake I made booking a dinner reservation with Patricia at silver birches by phone because of issues with their RESY app- she highly recommended the Glass restaurant at the Ledges hotel- I was so excited to sit by the waterfall! We looked so forward to our date night! We took a shuttle to the restaurant and upon arrival the reservation was never booked for us!!! We were told it happens a lot at Silver Birches. The shuttle bus driver who works for the settler’s hospitality group llc - was so upset she contacted silver birches to tell them but no one apologized for our inconvenience/disappointment. Oh the adult pool was dirty. A clump of hair on the pool gate no one on staff seemed to notice, the live music was painfully loud, the drinks at the pool side bar were weak and expensive- our lunch order never arrived. The kayaks ,canoes that we paid for as a required fee but never used were just on the ground piled together- no rhyme or reason- While attempting to relax on the disgusting bird poop covered Adirondack chairs a staff member replaced a moldy worn corn hole game w a new one. Again, we were deceived by the website. If there is an award for Best Fake Website- Silver Birches wins it hands down.

Bus trip Buffett Came in a bus trip from upstate NY. Had a nice lunch and the show voices of legends was good too. Service was excellent and place was clean. Could use a larger women’s room with more stalls. View is excellent and you could step outside and see the lake.
