Storied Inn in New England

If walls could talk, these would recite passages from the classics of American literature. Maxwell Perkins, the celebrated editor who elevated Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald to fame, once lived in the building that is now Snapdragon Inn. Built in 1815, the brick home recently underwent renovations that transformed it into an elegant inn. The luxury boutique hotel preserves its literary roots with a wood-paneled library. Throughout the property, chic decor recalls the glamour of Perkins’s 1920s heyday.

  • Rooms: Updated guest rooms feature pastel walls surround large colonial windows, from which sunlight spills across custom-upholstered armchairs and Victorian-style bed benches. Each room is outfitted with custom bedding, wireless internet, and HD televisions.

  • Amenities: The Maxwell Perkins Library provides a welcoming space for guest to unwind. The cozy room is complete with a working wood stove and a reading selection related to the history of the inn. Visitors are also able to enjoy the tree swings, gardens, and walking paths available on the property.

  • Paradise Park: The nearby nature preserve features a lake and trails, providing uninterrupted access to view wildlife

This is a beautiful, quiet, and romantic Inn located in a small town. The booking process was seemless, the breakfast was good, and we were able to relaxed and enjoy our time. Highly recommended to anyone looking to do nothing but relax.

Classy, Roomy and Comfortable for a Reasonable Price Although I might have been the only one in the place, everything was simple and smooth, from booking through check-in (touchless) and breakfast. There were plenty of options for coffee and other hot drinks 24/7 and there were various breakfast options, including my favorite Chobani Greek yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fruit, etc. The location is great and the accommodations were nicer and roomier than I expected from an early 1800's building. There was even a portable ironing board and iron in the closet. The only thing I didn't see was a hair dryer. Overall very good experience and a better breakfast than at most hotels.

For Sale & Owner is Checked Out. Visit was disappointing in so many ways As another reviewer indicated, the Inn is for sale and from our experience the owner has checked out. I would have given this a "1" except the inn itself is charming and has recently been remodeled with considerable attention to detail. It was also immaculately clean, unlike another reviewer's experience. Having said that, my advice is DO NOT STAY HERE for the following reasons; 1) the bed was uncomfortable. My guess is the mattress was worn out and a cheap "egg crate" mattress topper was purchased to avoid the cost of replacing it. All I know is the mattress sloped down from the center to the middle of the bed and it offered no support. 2) I never saw nor spoke to the host. She would only communicate by email. The night we arrived neither the internet nor the TV was working. I sent her an email about the problems. We went back-and-forth while I tried to explain what was happening. Between her not understanding what I was saying and long delays between each attempt it was a totally frustrating and futile exercise. I asked her to call me so we could talk. She did not. By 10 pm she stopped responding to my emails. She did email me the next morning and resolved the issue the next day, but 1 out of the 2 nights I was there I had no internet and no TV. What kind of B&B only communicates with its guests solely by email? 3) Breakfast was a joke. A bowl of apples and bananas, bagels, English muffins, store bought muffins wrapped in cellophane, and cold cereal were the choices. I expect more from a B&B. 4) The windows were painted shut. The room was too warm and the hot water heat had a long delay before the temperature adjusted. THING TO KNOW IF YOU IGNORE MY ADVICE & BOOK A STAY 1) There is no lighting on the street and it gets dark around 4:30 in NH in the winter. There is sign for Snapdragon Inn but it is not lighted so we didn't see it. If there were numbers on any of the houses on the entire block, I didn't see them. Further complicating the search, the picture on the website is the front of the inn, but the front faces the side yard not the street, so the street view wasn't what I was expecting. 2) Parking is on the left side of the inn when you face the house. There is a driveway on the right and we pulled in there first. It only had one parking place next to the trash cans, so we walked around to the other side before we found the parking lot. Be aware that the lost is just dirt so I expect it would be a muddy mess if it rains or the snow is melting.
