Key West, Florida: Dazzling Sunsets, Six-Toed Cats, and Cuban Culture

Located just off Florida's southernmost tip and north of Cuba, the island of Key West is undoubtedly the most famous of the Florida Keys. Frommer's calls it "the land of the eternal vacation." Most tourists come to Key West's gulf-side beaches to snorkel, surf, or fish, but no trip to Key West is complete without a visit to the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, where the author lived, worked, and kept his six-toed cats. More than 50 descendants of those famous felines still prowl the grounds of the museum to this day.

At nighttime, locals and visitors alike converge on the Mallory Square Dock to watch the sun dip below the Gulf of Mexico, casting swaths of deep orange and pink against the horizon. The spectacle is so breathtaking that it inspires a sunset celebration each night. The dock comes to life with traveling psychics, one-man bands, and food vendors serving fresh-squeezed lemonade and plantain chips.

The resort was wonderful however just know even though Groupon says resort and fees included in purchase that is not true we had to pay that at the resort. I was pretty upset about how Groupon worded that part because it was an unexpected expense. But as far as the resort I say book this you will not be disappointed.

The stay at this resort was amazing. It is very clean which is always my biggest concern when booking resorts/hotels. The staff are very friendly and nice. I like their phone text service where you can text at anytime and they are able to respond to your request. We stayed for our honeymoon and it was perfect.

Southernmost Resort - Big Disappointment We stayed at the Southernmost Resort for a 60 year birthday celebration and were very disappointed. The AC unit in room 1209 overlooking the Pineapple Pool was extremely loud, interfering with sleep. My husband left the room and slept on a cabana by the pool. The AC vent on the exterior of the building was bent off the wall, resulting in the AC exhaust blowing onto the balcony. We couldn’t sit outside comfortably with the hot air blowing in us. Also, the water pressure in the shower was not adequate enough to rinse my hair. The shower looked like it had been updated. The mattress and pillows were of low quality and uncomfortable. The location was nice and the pool areas were fine. For the price, the Southernmost wasn’t worth it. The resort needs some serious attention. Don’t waste your money.

60th Birthday Celebration Let Down For the price this resort was very disappointing. The check in process was extremely slow - only 1 person checking guests in at 4pm. The room was ok at best - the loud air conditioning unit was old and loud to the point it will wake you up from a sound sleep. The water pressure in the shower was so low you could not wash your hair- we went to our friend’s hotel to shower. If these rooms have been updated recently then the ownership missed the mark by not addressing the old outdated AC units across the resort and addressing the water pressure. The bed and pillows were well worn and needed replacing - very uncomfortable. The beach area and pools were very nice and the staff around the resort were pleasant. We did report our unsatisfactory room conditions and nothing was addressed. I did receive an email from resort management and have not had a response back regard my stay. I don’t think they care what type of experience their guest have at this property. My sister also stayed at this resort and had the same issues in her room. The AC was so bad her husband slept outside on a pool lounge chair for 2 nights. This was a 60th birthday vacation for all of us and it was totally disappointing. We will not be back to this resort any time soon and will not recommend it to anyone we know.

Resort in state of decay I don’t know when these other reviews were written, but the upkeep on the hotel is lacking. Broken elevators, concrete chunks in the water and on the beach. Multiple calls were needed to get basics like fresh towels or even blankets on the bed. We were literally left with only sheets one day. Go someplace where the management cares instead. Especially for the price point, you can do better.
