Hotel at a Glance: Springside Inn

Springside Inn became a part of history back during the days of the Civil War, when Harriet Tubman took it upon herself to hide runaway slaves in the thickets surrounding the inn’s backyard. The inn itself is even said to have been used as part of the Underground Railroad.

Today, however, Springside operates as a charming country inn that merely sits on historic land. It offers all the amenities of a bed and breakfast, such as complimentary breakfast and a beautiful landscape, and more.

  • A warm welcome: Guests are greeted with a bottle of wine in their room followed up by a complimentary cheese plate and two desserts per stay.
  • Top destination: The inn was rated one of the top 15 getaways in the Northeast by Huffington Post.
  • Award-winning restaurant: Oak & Vine, the onsite gastro-pub, allows for casual fireside dining in the cooler months and outdoor dining when the weather gets warmer.
  • Less then 1 mile from the inn sits The Point at Sand Beach, which is a historical chapel owned by Springside and run as an additional private dining area or ceremony site.
  • Downtown Auburn is just minutes away, and the inn has stunning lake-front views.

New York’s Finger Lakes: Rolling Vineyards, Deep Gorges, and More than 1,000 Waterfalls

The Finger Lakes region in Upstate New York gets its name from 11 long, thin lakes that were forged by glaciers thousands of years ago. The upheaval created breathtaking geography—more than 1,000 waterfalls spill down the sides of the area’s famous rocky gorges. Fishing, boating, and hiking are its biggest draws—head to Watkins Glen State Park to follow a 2-mile trail past 19 waterfalls—along with more than 100 wineries.

Ithaca, which borders Cayuga Lake, is the region’s largest town. Come for the postcard-worthy views of Ithaca Falls, and stay for the small-town charm. Downtown Ithaca’s historical buildings house bistros, boutiques, and taverns that serve local wine from the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. This is also where you’ll find Cornell University, one of New York’s two Ivy League schools.

The staff was extremely welcoming. Room was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spotless. Dinner at the attached restaraunt the Oak and Vine was very good a lot of food for your money.

Stay at a real hotel instead. No charm, no "Inn" amenities Please realize many of the reviews for this place are for the restaurant and not for guests staying at the inn. My stay as a guest was less than thrilling. In retrospect we should've spent the extra $$ to stay at an actual hotel. Cute and quaint and exactly what we hoped it wouldn't be. The room smelled and looked old. The bathroom could comfortably fit a small adult (I am small and still felt claustrophobic). We ended up not showering because the bathroom was just gross. A very small standing shower with a hard water stained shower curtain. A small sink and terrible lighting. The room was dusty. Just dusty. It's clear the cleaning crew doesn't actually keep the room fresh, probably a quick laundering of the same sheets and comforters and a quick lysol in the bathroom. Otherwise, the room was just crusty feeling. The room itself is large with a terrible layout and more importantly the doors a paper thin. We could hear everyone who came up or down the stairs, any opening or closing doors, and the conversations of everyone in the halls...a restless night for sure.....BUT The finale...the bed. I've stayed at my fair share of terrible places but so long as the bed is comfy...I'm good to go. Unfortunately the bed was awful. Flat pillows, dated sheets, and bed that CREAKED! Prior to heading to our event for the evening, I tried to take a quick nap. I am a light sleeper and already sensitive to noise but you literally could not lay down or shift, adjust a pillow, or move leg without the entire bed squeaking. Needless to say heading into the actual night of sleep we were less than thrilled. Service left little to be desired. We checked in and were shown our room, and that was about it. It was unclear if/where water might be available. There were NO glasses in the room, etc., etc. When we checked in and were shown our room, they were also actively painting the hall, which was bizarre because...we checked in on a Friday at 4 PM. Was there not a better time of day to do that? The morning breakfast was pretty bad. If there's one thing we counted on, it was a nice B&B style meal...there was a crappy spattering of cold pastries and eh coffee. We opted not to eat any of it. Laughable to be told 'breakfast was included'. For $200, you're better off getting a hotel with actual amenities.

Not worth the price The room was clean , but old. The location was good . The ground looked nice . Very cheap soap and shampoo in the bathroom. The breakfast was awful. Bagels in a plastic wrap and some mini muffins in a tray. Coffee had a funky flavor . Not worth the money we paid.
