Traverse City, Michigan: Charming Cherry Capital of the World

One of USA Today’s 10 Great Places for Local Wines, Traverse City draws visitors year-round with its fine rieslings made from grapes grown on the fertile Old Mission Peninsula. The proclaimed “Cherry Capital of the World,” tucked between the pinky and ring finger on the hand-shaped Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is bordered by scenic Grand Traverse Bay to the north and the sprawling Traverse City State Forest Area to the east.

The town’s downtown and waterfront thrive with gourmet restaurants and landmarks such as the State Theatre, a restored art-house cinema built in 1949; drop by for the $0.25 Saturday-morning matinee. A drive north up the Old Mission Peninsula eventually ends at the whitewashed Mission Point Lighthouse, a landmark constructed in 1870.

The hotel was beautiful and very clean. It was right on the beach, and the staff was super nice! Traverse City is awesome! Would definitely recommend both the town and the hotel!!!

We would have been happy with two queen beds but the king bed was extra nice as it gave us plenty of room to move around as we are restless sleepers.

Traverse City Trip Accomodations were nice and I loved our room with a balcony overlooking the beach. It was also nice to select a breakfast choice and have it delivered to the room. The Starbucks brand coffee in the room was GREAT! So many other hotels skimp on the brand of coffee provided for the room coffee makers.

The view isn't worth the cost, hotel quality, and disgusting breakfast The prepackaged breakfast was worse than hospital food! The housekeeping NEVER came in a 4 night 5 day stay. Had to beg the front desk multiple times for clean towels! They do NOT recycle on property and they deliver breakfast in cardboard boxes; extremely wasteful especially for it being 2024! They claim they're a smoke free, pet free facility, yet multiple people smoking cigarettes right next to other people on the resorts private beach and sitting with barking dogs. Clearly, they do NOT enforce their own rules. Loved being pregnant and having my 3 and 5 year old around a bunch of second hand smoke....NOT! The hair blow dryer is the worst I've used in my 33 years of life. It almost caught fire during use. The water pressure is non existant and the shower curtains are dated and gross. The mini fridge barely stays cool, so you have to live on dry snacks or get all of your meals out. You'll spend 1k just for the view of the lake and access to the beach. My family spends the same amount for the white sand of the gulf of Mexico each spring with better amenities, views, and a full kitchen. Extremely disappointed with our stay! Will NOT be back!

Quick overnight for airport pick-up Very pleasant stay. Nice breakfast delivered to the room. I was in town to make a late night pick-up of my wife arriving from Chicago. Location was very convenient. Beautiful view of the bay. We have stayed before and always enjoy our stay. Desk sent a text after check-in to see if everything was ok. I appreciated that.
