Ocean City, Maryland: Family-Friendly Boardwalk next to the Atlantic

Along Ocean City’s century-old boardwalk, you can savor wild-caught blue crab, play old-fashioned arcade games, and watch candy makers spin colorful saltwater taffy. The lively boardwalk, which stretches for 3 miles along Maryland’s eastern shore, helped earn Ocean City a spot on USA Today’s list of the "10 great places to have some fun on a boardwalk." Kids can ride a ferris wheel and climb aboard one of the country’s oldest carousels at Trimper’s Amusement Park, a family-owned theme park open for more than 100 years.

Assateague Island National Seashore—a 37-mile stretch of salt marshes running from Ocean City down to Virginia—offers a peaceful reprieve from the boardwalk’s constant activity. The island’s famous wild horses gallop on the shores, and you can can climb up a vintage, candy-striped lighthouse, or hike the seaside forests to spot birds, including great horned owls, ruby-crowned kinglets, and great blue herons.

We LOVED it We had an amazing time. The grounds were beautiful. We spent one day at the pool and one day on the beach. Very short distance to the Ocean City boardwalk. The staff was amazing and very attentive. We had a couple little concerns that were fixed immediately.

Higher rates with less amenities and property issues. Prices drastically increasing while services going downhill. Advertised gym and hot tub as amenities but there is no gym just an empty room. When I asked about it they said they were going to make it a kids activity center, which I couldn’t understand because they already have that at the pavilion. Hot tub was broken. We got pizza for lunch one day and another camper said oh you got pizza they were out of food yesterday. The pool bathrooms were disgusting. They were locked one day and I asked to have them unlocked and was told they had so many complaints about them being dirty they just locked the doors. The gentleman combing the beach and doing trash did a great job. The pool was well maintained. The people working there for the most part were friendly.

Expensive, poor service and quality After 30 years of coming to this campground, our family is sadly ending our tradition here. Last year, we requested to book the same sites for our annual family vacation. We assumed we were reserving our usual spots, only to arrive and find out they were completely different sites, scattered apart. The lady at the front desk insisted there was no mistake on their end, despite the obvious confusion and inconvenience it caused for our family vacation. Booking sites next to each other is crucial for us, especially with young kids, and it was disheartening to encounter such dismissiveness. Even the manager's response was disappointing. There was no effort made to rectify the situation, no attempt to find adjacent sites, and not even a simple apology for the mix-up. It felt like our loyalty and long-standing patronage didn't matter. Regrettably, after this experience, we can no longer continue our yearly visits here. We expected better customer service and understanding from a place we've cherished for so long. Moreover, we've noticed a concerning trend of rising prices without corresponding improvements in campground facilities or services. It's disappointing to see the decline in quality over the years.

False advertising for amenities The property is beautiful, however, we paid $220/night for an RV hook up. Most of the amenities were not in working order. Hot tub was broke, no jet skis as advertised, fitness center empty,no equipment, paddle boards/kayaks were closed 2 out of 3 days we were there. Shuttle out of the park was broken. We paid for amenities that weren't available. And trapped there unless we brought another vehicle.

Going down hill and now ripping people off! We’ve been coming to this campground for over 10 years and it has really gone downhill!! Not only are we paying outrageous prices but nothing is open!!! The hot tub was closed, the bars were closed, the coffee and food places are closed! And the store closes at five. Hopefully you don’t need anything after 5 o’clock!! The bathrooms are disgusting, the picnic tables are falling apart!! Everything is looking used and old!! To top it all off they now want you to spend $90 more to reserve the same horrible place for next year!! NO WAY!!! You have now lost our business! I am sure you will respond on how “things are going up in the area” but $90 a night and spending over $200 a night for a piece of land that’s ridiculous and you are taking advantage of people! Very sad!! The only nice thing about this campground are the sweet people who work there and have to listen to people complain all day!! Hopefully they take better care of their employees than they do their loyal campers!!
