Yosemite National Park, California: Giant Sequoia Trees and Waterfalls

Yosemite National Park is a place of superlatives: it’s home to one of the world’s tallest waterfalls, the largest piece of exposed granite in the world at El Capitan, and a grove of ancient sequoia trees that are among the largest living beings on the planet. So it’s no wonder why this swath of wilderness in central California welcomes nearly four million visitors each year.

Crowds at Yosemite are much smaller in winter, so visitors can typically experience the park’s natural wonders at an unhurried pace. In cold weather, one trek worth making is the 1.2-mile Bridalveil Fall hike, which leads right up to the roaring cascade. It can be icy during winter, but it’s a trip that’s both easy and rewarding.

It snowed 8 inches the night before we arrived. It was the perfect setting for a nice winter vacation. It was our first time going to Yosemite in the winter and it was beautiful while the snow lasted. Great hiking in comfortable weather. The hotel was nice, comfortable bed, clean, nice staff. The restaurant had good food, but be prepared to pay premium prices.

I would definitely recommend this resort and hope to go again! Everything was clean and staff was more pleasant in person than over the phone.

Crowded, overpriced Like an over crowded holiday inn. Pool is no where near big enough for this large place. Overwhelmed staff. Explorer cabins better but overpriced. Staff at clubhouse unfriendly and unhelpful. Horrible experience with registration. 30 min wait. Wrong room type. No outdoor service at pool or restaurant on a beautiful day. Path from cabins to lodge is not lit and very steep hill. The e-bikes on forest road were best part, but unhelpful staff.

Wonderful experience We stayed in the Explorer Cabins, incredibly peaceful, cozy and very clean. Beautiful stream setting behind the area.Walk or shuttle to main lodge was very easy. Food, drinks and service was great. Concierge was so helpful with Yosemite information and what to do in the area. Only 2 mile drive to entrance of Yosemite. Would definitely return.

Lovely family getaway Tenaya Cabins offered a fantastic family getaway for us travelling as a family of 5. We stayed for 5 nights as part of a 15 night California trip. Some highlights and tips: - the 2 bedroom cabins were a great choice for us. We had a double bed in the first bedroom and a bunk bed with a double on the bottom. - the cabins were really tranquil and we had deer appear around us whilst sitting out at the clubhouse - the main Lodge with all its amenities was a 10 min stroll away. We particularly enjoyed the lounge with the board games and the kids enjoyed the games room. A pianist played at the weekend and took requests which was served our birthday boy well! - the complimentary continental breakfast, wine hour and nightly smores were a nice touch at the cabins - we ate in the restaurant a couple of nights and it was lovely (though we do recommend the Oakhurst Grill which is only a 10 min drive away) Minor negatives: - the cabins are only equipped with paper cups, plates, bowls and plastic cutlery. There are no knives, microwaveable bowls, basic kitchen utensils/tin openers (found this slightly disappointing as we had lots of food that went to waste…I challenge anyone to carve a pineapple with a plastic knife!)
