Yoko Ono, Al Capone, and Franklin Roosevelt have all relaxed within the stately Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa, which began inviting guests to dip in its soothing waters in 1875. The resort has been revamped many times since then, but it still offers the same luxurious amenities: warm natural spring waters, spa services, and fine dining.

Hot Springs, Arkansas: Home to Historic Hot Springs National Park

The resort community of Hot Springs has a thriving small-town arts scene and was the boyhood hometown of President Bill Clinton. But the primary attraction remains the natural thermal waters that gave the town its name. They flow out of the ground at about 147 degrees at Hot Springs National Park, nicknamed “The American Spa.” The mineral pools put the town on the map in the late 19th century, and scores of celebrities sampled them in the 20th, including Babe Ruth, Harry Truman, Rose Kennedy, and Barbara Streisand. The Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Brooklyn Dodgers have vacationed here during spring training, and Al Capone used to rent out an entire floor of the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa on Central Avenue.

On Bathhouse Row, visitors have been soaking in the hot springs for more than a century. Guests can take traditional baths in individual tubs at Buckstaff Bathhouse, or tour the luxurious Fordyce Bathhouse—a precursor to the modern spa dating back to 1915.
