Hotel at a Glance: The Barclay Towers Resort Hotel

The Barclay Towers Resort Hotel puts you within steps of Virginia Beach’s namesake attraction: the beach. Though it may be too cold to play in the waves, you’ll still have a picturesque view from your oceanfront suite’s balcony. Between November 22 and December 30, you’ll be treated to another beautiful sight: during Holiday Lights at the Beach, the boardwalk lights up with ornate light displays, ranging from surfing Santa to jumping dolphins and sailboats rocking in the wind.

  • Take a dip in the heated indoor pool, or take in ocean views while relaxing in the hot tub.
  • Whip up a meal in your spacious suite’s kitchen, which is outfitted with an oven, a refrigerator, cookware, and place settings for four.
  • Fresh local fare: Grab shrimp, surf-and-turf tacos, and Atlantic cod at Chix Seaside Grille & Bar, or head to Waterman’s Surfside Grille for lump crab cakes and key-lime pie; both are just a short walk away.
  • Hit the boardwalk for shopping. Don’t miss the 24-foot-tall bronze King Neptune statue, which stands guard at Neptune Park’s gateway.
  • Cultural activities: Climb to the top of the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse for a bird’s-eye view of the cape, bay, and ocean. At the nearby Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, you can spot sea turtles, watch a 3D IMAX film, or explore the Owl Creek salt marsh.

Virginia Beach, Virginia: Award-Winning Boardwalk and Seaside Museums

English settlers from the Virginia Company of London first stepped foot onto American soil in what is now Virginia Beach, Virginia. They would go on to found Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement, along the James River. But before they left the shoreline, they erected a cross on the spot where they had disembarked. Today, the First Landing Cross commemorates this momentous event. Needless to say, a lot has changed in Virginia Beach since the 1600s. The seaside town has become a family-friendly destination known for supersize beaches and a 3-mile-long boardwalk dubbed one of America’s best by Travel + Leisure.

Come for the view, and the coffee! The suites are large, with well stocked kitchens and your own balcony with a terrific view. Furniture has recently been replaced. Bed is comfortable. The place is older, and the hallway is a little icky, but once you’re in the room all is well. The free coffee machine in the lobby makes THE BEST coffee. Easy walk to parking, and right on the boardwalk and beach. While we were here, they put in brand new laundry machines. I did see one bug (it shot out of the hairdryer!), but no real issue.

Terrible Awful. Dirty rooms. Switched rooms 3 times due to black mold and uncleanliness of rooms. New owner has false advertising there is NO free breakfast here due to his new restaurant he cares more about than his guests. Smell of weed where they say they can not interfere with people smoking weed in the rooms. Makes no sense. If you are taking a family just be aware of not having towels, staying up due to the bedroom being beside hall where you can here everything and dirty towels being folded up and laid back on the rack from previous guest ughhhh never again.

Mediocre at Best I booked this resort for a week with my kids. The Thursday before I received a call that our room had flooded and they were moving us to another room. No problem. Got here and the check in process was less than ideal. Line was 10 people deep as we had to wait for the check in lady to go upstairs to each room for check in to make sure they were ready. Checkin took about 30 min. Parking is across the street in the parking garage. Room is VERY small.you walk into the bedroom from the front door, through the bedroom to get to the living room and bathroom. Bedroom is decent size. Living room and kitchen VERY small. Not ideal for 2 kids sleeping on a pullout couch. No vacuum or daily cleaning so the sand gets everywhere. Washing machines don’t work, out of 3 laundry rooms only 1 washer worked, and the only dryer that worked was on a different floor from the washer. Location however is PERFECT. You are right on the beach, balconies all face the beach. If you are looking for cheap week away, don’t mind SMALL living quarters, and are just looking for cheap and basic, this place is all of that. Not to mention the 4th floor AC stopped working while we were there, and no timeframe for repair. One of the employees told me “this place is really garbage, half the stuff doesn’t work”. But if all your looking for is a room to sleep in and a shower right on the beach, it serves its purpose. First time to Virginia Beach. If I come back I’ll probably try to stay somewhere else, especially with kids.
