San Francisco’s Union Square: Luxury Shopping District with Broadway Shows

Union Square is where San Franciscans go to find their coolest threads. The Square, which has grown to include several surrounding blocks, houses one of the country’s densest concentrations of department stores and upscale boutiques. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s anchor its namesake plaza, and smaller boutiques are tucked along narrow alleyways. Shoppers can sift through vintage books at family-owned antique shops and admire iconic French fashion labels on the pedestrian-only Maiden Lane.

Union Square is also famous for its eclectic arts scene. The American Conservatory Theater produces Tony Award–winning dramas and comedies in a gorgeous Beaux Arts building. A handful of art galleries and museums—most notably the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—display renowned works from artists such as Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper.

This is a Gem and the Staff is A+ This hotel is a gem! It's downtown and on the cutest section of Powell. The vibe is great and the staff is incredibly warm and helpful. I left an item in my room and they quickly found it and sent it back to me. Shout-out to Frankie and his colleagues. I will definitely be coming back.

Great Hilton Location In Union Square Best Place Best Staff Home away from home. I stayed at the Barnes while relocating back to SF during the Holidays for a few weeks. I stay here often as it is a great location with an amazing staff. Murella and Amarion always greeted me by name and always inquired about my 4 legged traveling companion. Angel the Bartender is also amazing serving great cocktails and a nice space to unwind. The building is historic and the rooms have a great vibe. Would definitely recommend. If you Hilton Honors the daily F&B credit is also very generous.

Give this one a miss How this hotel calls itself a Hilton is a mystery. No hot water; the door shut on my arm (bleeding) the air conditioning is a law unto itself. There are fans in the room but no instructions as to how to turn them off. At least the internet is working (it wasn't last year when I stayed here). Continental breakfast ($18) consists of packaged cereals, some bread/danish and tired quiche under a (not very hot) heat lamp. The neighborhood, which used to be nice, is now sketchy - the big Walgreens down Powell Street, which used to be an oasis of fresh food in a beautiful store, is closing at the end of the month. I won't be back.

Great location The most affordable Hilton hotel in Union Square vicinity. Location is superb and staff are wonderfully pro and helpful esp Marella, Valerie, Frankie and Carlos. The room size can be better though. Also check the bathroom as our shower bottle was not working and toilet was not as clean.

Marella and Amarion :-) Having surprised our friend with a birthday trip to San Francisco, we found ourselves surprised by how great the customer service was. Amarion and Marella were hands down some of the friendliest, kind, knowledgeable, helpful and downright best customer service I have ever experienced. I would come back to the hotel just to see them again! To also mention that Valerie was a sweetheart as well. Hotel was nice and located in a good area, 10/10 recommended.
