Miami Beach, Florida: White-Sand Beaches, Glamorous Nightlife, and Cuban Cuisine

Miami Beach is a small barrier island situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, a shallow lagoon that separates the beaches from downtown Miami. People from all over the world come here to enjoy the white-sand beaches, shop the high-end boutiques, and party at the legendary see-and-be-seen nightclubs the city is known for. The red-hot center of this sexy, international social scene is South Beach, a 20-block stretch filled with upscale lounges, rooftop bars, and ultrahip hangouts behind velvet ropes. Lummus Park beach is packed by mid-morning, and the clubs on Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue—many of which stay open until 5 a.m.—vie for the limelight with VIP service, celebrity DJs, and dressed-to-the-nines crowds.

Beyond the fast-paced luxury of South Beach lies Miami Beach’s softer side. A leisurely stroll through the Art Deco District reveals hundreds of beautiful, candy-colored buildings, including Versace Mansion—a 1930 manor modeled after a palace in the Dominican Republic that belonged to Christopher Columbus’s family. The centerpiece of the city’s arts scene, the Bass Museum of Art displays works from Peter Paul Rubens and Sandro Botticelli, and modern-design objects and propaganda arts fill three stories at the Wolfsonian-FIU museum. There’s also a handful of vibrant ethnic enclaves to explore here, and Little Havana is among the most notable. The neighborhood is lined with family-owned restaurants and Caribbean-style marketplaces, making it a great place to discover some of the country’s most delicious Cuban food, from sugary guarapo juice to pastelitos, or Cuban pastries.

We knew not to expect anything extravagant, but the hotel really tried. The staff was very nice, the lobby was clean and the room was clean. The place is very dated, but they have a Mexican restaurant attached, a pool and sits right next to an entrance to the beach. Can’t beat it for the experience. This place is a vibe.

Should be condemned. Booked this place for a day pass after a cruise to hang out before our evening flight. It was honestly the worst hotel I have ever seen. I tried to get a refund and was refused. I just sat outside for almost the whole time due to the uncleanliness and smell. Total waste of money. This place is horrendous and is in of a major renovation as it is seriously unsafe.

Disappointing Stay at Broadmore Hotel – (2/21-2/23) To begin, we've written the hotel via their email addresses they provided and advertised and we continue to get bounce backs so here is the letter we sent them: Dear Ms. Kerr, I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with my father’s recent stay at the Broadmore Hotel from February 21st through February 23rd. Given the price point of nearly $300 per night, we expected a far superior experience, but unfortunately, his stay was riddled with issues that made it feel worse than a budget motel. From the start, the check-in process was unwelcoming, as the staff member handling it was not friendly at all. This immediately set a negative tone. The room he was given did not match the photos of what was booked, and what he received was shockingly subpar. The room had virtually no amenities, no dressers, and a single mini-fridge placed randomly in the space. The windows were cloudy and appeared to have not been cleaned in months. Worse yet, the closet had no hangers, forcing him to live out of his bag for the duration of his stay. Adding to this, we were not informed that there was ongoing construction. He had to walk to Collins just to find transportation, which was an inconvenience. The room itself had several functional issues—the entry light switch did not work, meaning he had to walk in the dark to manually turn on the bedside lights, creating a clear trip hazard especially for a senior citizen with eye issues. Perhaps the most unacceptable aspect of his stay was the state of the bathroom. Upon his first shower, the drain did not work properly, and he found himself standing in 3–4 inches of water. To make matters worse, there was hair in the shower that was not his, which was extremely unhygienic. While maintenance was sent to address the drainage issue, the problem persisted during his next shower, ultimately forcing him to be moved to another room. Frankly, this experience was inexcusable for your hotel and at this price point. The combination of poor customer service, misleading room expectations, and severe maintenance issues left us extremely disappointed. I would appreciate a response regarding how you plan to address these concerns.

Not As Advertised Two double bed room. Nothing like pictures. One small table in corner. No dresser or any other counter space. All my clothes/ belongings on bed with me. No light except for by bed. Shower backed up to shin height immediately for hours. Outlet in bathroom unsafe/doesn’t hold plug. Toilet was “industrial “ like in a public store. And leaking at the base. Pool pic definitely photo shopped. Not many Tv Channels. Those that came through very fuzzy. Larger garbage cans needed since no cleaning service but every 3 days. No ocean view (or any view) due to construction. Majority of staff was friendly and helpful.
