Hotel at a Glance: The Claridge Hotel

A 1920's-era hotel that was once nicknamed the "Skyscraper of the Sea," The Claridge Hotel recently returned to the Atlantic City Boardwalk with a slew of updated amenities. The hotel's choice location puts guests just minutes from the beach and shopping destinations.

  • Glitzy history: Opened in 1930, The Claridge Hotel has hosted such celebrities as Marilyn Monroe, Al Capone, and Frank Sinatra. It's one of the oldest remaining skyscrapers from Atlantic City's early boom, and channels the Roaring Twenties feel popularized by the TV show Boardwalk Empire.
  • Where you'll stay: Recently renovated guest rooms feature WiFi access and Cuisinart coffeemakers. Book the jetted-tub king room to enjoy the added perks of a private jetted tub.
  • Take a dip in the indoor pool and make splashing memories (seasonal).
  • Break a sweat in the fitness center.

Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Yikes, not the charming beauty it could’ve been! Overall the staff was rude and made a lot of people late to an event due to lack of staffing terrible check in service. There was 50 + people in line and 1 of 2 staff talked on her phone while the other worked and the line growing longer by the minute. The room was dirty and dark especially the bathroom, the toilet wasn’t flush to the floor and rocked side to side when sitting in it. My room door had difficulty closing and locking, windows cloudy couldn’t enjoy the view, mattresses needed to be replaced, bleach stained carpeting, ice machine didn’t work, long wait at the elevators nothing less than 5 minutes. My room was so gross I wasn’t interested in the other amenities. It’s was all old and uncared for needs lots of tlc

Poor experience Claridge has always been our go to for our birthdays this year so far has not been a fun experience Front desk was not welcoming felt like we were a bother Went to goto the rooftop bar The Vue unable to access via elevator my husband is not able to walk stairs. Front desk could care less. I guess Ballys will take our money. Last time I will come here. So sad such a historical hotel but service is not good

Not a very grand hotel From the time we checked in till checking out 2 days later we have seen maybe 4 staff. No one was readily available at the front when we needed something. First night we needed assistance from maintenance and was told no one was available. It took over 10 minutes for hot water to get hot enough for a shower. There were no towels available at the pool. The restaurants and coffee shop were never open. Ice machines were broken on the floor we stayed on and the floor above and below us. Very unhappy with our stay. It wasn't't a very happy 50th birthday party trip for my best friend.
