Saratoga Springs, New York: Luxurious Spas Meet Thoroughbred Racing

Nicknamed Spa City, Saratoga Springs has been known for its numerous natural hot springs since the Victorian era. One historic resort from that time, the Roosevelt Baths & Spa, even still remains today. Other springs can be found all over town, usually under gazebos or marked with plaques for easy public access.

The city’s other claim to fame is the Saratoga Race Course, the third oldest track of its kind in America. Thoroughbreds still gallop along the course throughout the warmer months. At any time of year, you can learn more about the sport of kings at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

I stayed at the Gideon Putnum, and it was a lovely facility. The staff was great. The room comfortable and large. They provided fantastic toiletries. The hotel sits inside a state park that is beautiful.

Beautiful Hotel with A Lot of History This old hotel is gorgeous. There is a lot of architectural detail throughout the building and parts of it are like a museum where they have pictures from the "golden era" and provide in-depth information about each picture. It's also beautifully landscaped and you can't beat the location in the middle of Saratoga Spa State Park. My only criticism is about the bathroom. The maid failed to clean one of the soap dishes so I couldn't use it since it was covered in a thick soap scum. The door opened into the bathroom and is directly across from the toilet. They have a mirror on the inside of the bathroom directly across from the toilet. Ewww. The mirror should be on the outside of the bathroom door. It steams up after a shower and no one wants to watch themselves as they "go." I kept the door propped open as a result of the strange mirror placement. Lastly, the floor was wet and never dried out. My husband discovered a leak in the toilet seal (clean water) and he alerted the maintenance man who said he'd fix it. We were only there for one night. I would definitely stay again, despite the bathroom because the hotel really is lovely. Maintenance issues happen and I assume most bathroom floors remain dry. Management really should do something about the placement of the mirror and they need to direct housekeeping to do a better job when preparing a room for new guests.

Not worth the money, but a nice spot for cocktails pre-concert. Tonight was the Philadelphia Symphony. To start out on a positive, our server Vivian was wonderful. The food ? The Bao was lacking in everything…taste and size. Bao with char sui is usually stuffed. I had 2 pieces of ? in 2 baos for $20!! The cubano was not melted at all. The bread looked like it was put in the panini press for 30 secs. Cubanos need to be pressed and the cheese melted. Typically the meat is heated before being put on the sandwich. Big fail on both accounts. Will always like the chips and dip served with the meal. First review and should have done more in the past. I expect more from what I consider a high end location.

Really wonderful property We enjoyed our stay at this hotel thoroughly. The room was clean and cozy. Staff was super friendly. We enjoyed use of the Victoria pool and discount on the spa. The lobby and the grounds are beautiful. I would definitely stay here again. Only criticism would be the noisy air conditioner unit & elevator close by.
