Tampa, Florida: Sunny Days, Beaches, and Busch Gardens

Given that Tampa has more than 15 white-sand beaches and nearly 250 sunny days a year, it should come as no surprise that Forbes magazine ranked it the fifth-best city in America for enjoying the outdoors. Set on the Gulf Coast, about 90 miles southwest of Orlando, the city offers abundant green spaces as well as year-round opportunities for fishing, surfing, and golfing on waterfront courses.

Roller coasters and exotic animals share real estate at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, a theme park designed to evoke the thrills of an African safari. Like a big cat sprinting after its prey, Cheetah Hunt—one of the park’s newer thrill rides—reaches speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Back on solid ground, you can get up close and personal with more than 2,000 animals living in detailed replicas of their natural habitats.

Great Experience that did not disappoint My husband and I stayed here for a little weekend getaway, and the Godfrey Hotel did not disappoint. We arrived Friday around 1pm and was able to check in early. It was a pleasant surprise to find out we were upgraded to one of the suites. The room was very well kept, with the bed being comfortable. We actually had 2 great nights sleep. Our room overlooked Old Tampa Bay. The scenery was beautiful and I was able to capture the sunset. An added bonus, there is a restaurant/bar across that water from the hotel, and we got to enjoy the band they had playing Friday and Saturday night. We will definitely be staying here again. Shout out to Daniel for the Great communication before our stay!!

Receptionist was great. I only want to said dirty and smells like shi***. Going to report with the health department and the BBB. Because this is the only way to get something fixed here when someone do something or report something and I'm going to email AAA to get my money back.

Pay extra and book across the street The Godfrey had zero standards. To break it down, I'll start at the beginning. First, there is zero appeal; the entrance was messy, no landscaping and the most potent smell is marijuana. Second, the staff is not friendly; I didnt receive a smile, eye contact or even enjoy your stay (staff was miserable and spent more time vaping outside instead of manning the customer service desk. The room wasnt bad but the bathroom (especially the shower) is disgusting (bring shower shoes). Also, the balcony wouldve been enjoyable if not for the dripping AC's from above. There was a dead roach in the hallway as well. I will never return!

Conference Stay I stayed at the Godfrey because of the location and proximity to the Courtney Campbell trail. The property is a bit older, but it has character which I really liked. The beds are comfortable and the view from my room was over Old Tampa Bay which even this time of year did not disappoint. The staff I had was awesome. I did not eat at the property but heard good things. I love the cabanas when I have been in the past. The Rocky Point area is near Downtown Tampa/Convention Center, the airport, and a short trip will take you to the Pinellas County Beaches. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. The hotel provided free parking during my stay which was weekday. I highly recommend a mid week stay. I did have a few rowdy neighbors, but this hotel attracts a younger clientele, so noise is to be expected.

Stayed every year for a decade, this will be the last. It is very disappointing to see this once beautiful property decline so terribly. Rusted areas in tub/shower, sliding doors that stick and old furnishings. The lobby area is unimpressive and uncomfortable with old seating. Even the fresh water dispenser with lemons and limes has been removed. The outdoor seating area with bay view is uncared for. The pool area is old and uninviting, no one goes to the restaurant indoor or out. The dining furniture is old and uncomfortable. The once gorgeous pier sits as an eyesore since destroyed by hurricane Idelia, A YEAR AGO. The last straw for me is that the property is cashless forcing the guests to pay with a credit card. The “service fee”, AS A PERCENTAGE, is then passed on to the guest. Are you kidding me ? There are much nicer places to stay with corporations that care about and respect their guests and the money they will spend.
