Willis, Texas: Natural Beauty North of Houston

Willis is a small town sandwiched between Lake Conroe and Sam Houston National Forest. It has a rural feel that gives way as you move south along I-45. The lake is great for fishing, swimming, and boating, and the forest features the Lone Star Hiking Trail, a 128-mile path that has gained National Recreation Trail status. The planned community of The Woodlands, about a 20-minute drive south, contains some 500 shops and boutiques as well as The Woodlands Children’s Museum.

Houston makes for a good day trip from Willis—you can drive there in about an hour. Among the most famous attractions is Space Center Houston; Frommer’s raves, “there’s nothing like it anywhere else in the world.” Visitors can observe astronauts training for the International Space Station and try walking across a frictionless surface. Another can’t-miss site is the Houston Zoo, which encompasses a number of ecosystems, treehouses, and aquariums.

This place is paradise. The old house was quaint well appointed and Chef Jimmy in the dining room a master of his craft. The pool house and pool/spa area amazing. The view of the 180 acres could not have been more peaceful. We stayed in the cottages, the cottage was so well appointed and beautiful. They thought of absolutely everything, to include the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in.

Simply Beyond My entire experience was beyond expectations. I plan to return again and again. The staff were incredibly hospitable, professional, and anticipated needs before I realized I had a need. The facilities are highly appointed and aesthetically contribute to the tranquil environment that I experienced. The food was amazing and the executive chef and staff were accessible and beyond accommodating to our special dietary needs. Each guest room had an element of charm and uniqueness that contributed to the comfortability and ability to relax and unwind. I highly recommend this facility for business events, romantic get aways, family vacations or as a retreat for oneself or friends.

Wonderful Winter Wedding This is the perfect place for a wedding! We rented all suites for family and friends, breakfast, lunches and dinner thoughtfully and deliciously created by Chef Jess. The Staff made sure our setup was perfect and everything in place for our wedding. Guests commented on the beauty, attentiveness to detail and quality of plated entrees. Thank you Ana!

Hidden Gem!!! What a fabulous place! My husband and I had a great getaway stay at The Historic Hill House. The property is beautiful with attention to every detail. Our dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the servers were the best. Loved the turn down service with the yummy eucalyptus tea and our complimentary s'mores package. Such a friendly, peaceful, and happy experience! You have to see it to truly appreciate all that it has to offer. It would be the perfect venue for weddings, company retreats, girls' weekend, or family reunion. There are accommodations for everyone. Loved it!!
