Hotel at a Glance: The Laylow, Autograph Collection

Drawing on the vibes of nearby Waikiki Beach, this 4-star hotel brings island style right into its guest rooms and suites. Midcentury-inspired teak furniture is complemented by pops of color like palm-frond print wallpaper and gold pineapple figurines. Every room and suite has one or two private balconies with varying views of mountains and Waikiki’s high-rises.

  • Hawaiian eats at the open-air Hideout restaurant include local fish with coconut rice.
  • Poolside drinks like the Aloha Mama (Kikori Japanese whiskey with St. Germain elderflower liqueur and fruit juices) make for refreshing treats.
  • Fresh brews such as espressos and mochas made using Stumptown coffee
  • Live entertainment comes to the bar each night, and ukulele lessons let guests make their own music.
  • Sweet escape: Shave ice, a local dessert typically made with flavored syrup and sweetened condensed milk, is served each day.

Waikiki, Honolulu: White-Sand Beaches, World-Class Surfing, and Luxury Entertainment

When they’re not surfing or sunbathing on Waikiki’s beach, most travelers explore the area’s busy avenues lined with everything from upscale boutiques and nightclubs to craft booths and street performers. Other attractions include the Honolulu Zoo, which houses exotic and endangered species such as sumatran tigers and white-handed gibbons, and the Waikiki Aquarium, where more than 3,500 creatures of the Pacific glide throughout glassed-in galleries.

Also nearby is one of Hawaii’s most recognizable natural landmarks, Diamond Head State Monument—a 300,000-year-old saucer formed by a single eruption. Hikers can walk along a trail where molten lava once smoldered to ascend to the crater’s 560-foot-tall lip.

Extraordinary Stay and Genuine Hospitality!! What a welcome stay at The Laylow! I had been in need of a break from work and had mulled a couple properties over in Waikiki that I wanted to do a staycation with --- after a few suggestions from some colleagues and some corresponding "pau hana" gatherings at The Hideout, I felt pretty comfortable knowing that I would be in good hands. Fast forward to my actual weekend at the Laylow and I was pleasantly rewarded with fantastic hospitality and great energy from start to finish. The valet staff worked quickly to work through the queue of cars arriving --- I was instructed to make my way to reception and greeted with kind smiles and warm hearts by Gaby and Joey who showed me the amenities around the property. Taking the elevator up to the lobby level was exciting as you start to notice all the thoughtful details that make The Laylow distinctly part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, there are some great details that really standout and immediately make you feel like your in a special place; both in design and uniqueness. I also found that to be true reading the menu and how thoughtful the drink and food selection is, catering to both locals and visitors alike. A quick bathroom stop also showed me that this uniqueness extends beyond the dining room as there is a blend of modernism and vintage throwback design; somehow they don't over do it! The rooms were a real treat! Every square foot of the room and the furniture pieces are both functional and purposeful all while being carefully curated to present a space that is both homey and fresh. I cannot say that I have an eye for design but I do have a great appreciation for it now that I've stayed at the Laylow. I've only had a weekend stay but throughout my time, the staff at the cafe, front reception, concierge and most especially the housekeeping staff has been very kind and attentive! I was given some great dining recommendations and tried a few places I had not known of and been to --- incredibly grateful to have been introduced to new places I was not aware of. My room was always cozy and every time I returned to it from the beach, it continually felt like the place I needed to be! Thank you much for a great stay!

The Lay low: 5 stars I love this hotel! this is my ultimate favorite hotel on any of the Hawaiian islands. It is decorative in a good location and super clean and nice. The hotel has a gift shop, pool, and restaurant. They are very hospitable and they even send you a gift basket for free! I loved staying here and I would recommend this to anyone.

Review of Laylow Hotell The entire hotel staff was excellent. Chris (the porter) was very amiable. Very nice person to deal with. The shelf directly above the desk in the room was a questionable design decision. When I rose from the desk, I hit my head. Another questionable design decision was the bed being about 18-20 inches above the floor, which is the same height as the toilet. The bathroom layout was very good. All the chairs and benches in the lobby are very low. maybe 16 inches high. The elevator key card system is a great security idea. The restaurant's food items were very good. Most of the staff were very efficient. The location of the Laylow was excellent for the eating and shopping area. Many options including an international mall.
