Wilshire, Los Angeles: Shopping, Restaurants, and Museums near Hollywood

Wilshire Boulevard runs for 15 miles through the heart of Los Angeles, ending at Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica. On a stretch of Wilshire called the Miracle Mile, between Fairfax Boulevard and La Brea Boulevard, you’ll find Museum Row. Four of LA’s most notable institutions are clustered here: the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Craft and Folk Art Museum, the Petersen Automotive Museum, and the Page Museum. Preserved Ice Age fossils of mammoths and saber-toothed tigers are on display at the latter, which neighbors the famous La Brea Tar Pits.

The bright lights of Hollywood are just a short drive away. To see the cemented handprints of Tinseltown legends like Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne, travel about 4 miles north of Wilshire to the sidewalk in front of the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre. You can experience movie magic firsthand at Universal Studios, where interactive thrill rides are inspired by classic and contemporary films such as King Kong, Jurassic Park, and Transformers.

Great room and great staff We had a double birthday celebration at the end of December. The Room was amazing and very spacious. The views of Koreatown were exceptional. The staff was very friendly. Parking attendants very courteous. We paid for overnight parking and had to access our vehicle several times throughout our stay. Roberto, one of the parking attendants, was super attentive and polite. Would stay here again.

A hipster hotel I actually really liked. I am not a fan of hip, boutique hotels. I like bigger, more traditional operations that offer lots of the usual array of hotel services. Hip hotels with DJ’s in the lobby, podcast booths and legions of gen z’ers hanging out in the lobby are not appealing to me. But this hotel was well-located and well-priced and I like The Line in DC, so I figured why not give it a try. The interiors are very modern with heavy (brutalist) concrete hallways and ceilings and an eclectic collection of carpeting. draperies, etc. The rooms are fairly minimalist and small, but the bed and bed linens were very comfortable and the space was manageable. I had a large floor to ceiling window with a distant view of the “Hollywood” sign. I didn’t hear a peep of hipness or partying while in my room. I actually enjoyed a very good cup of coffee in the lobby surrounded by vloggers, bloggers and podcasters….but I was okay. Enjoyed walking around Koreatown quite a bit. It’s a tad gritty, but there’s lots of authentic restaurants and shops. Best thing about this hotel was that it featured the first or second best shower i’ve ever enjoyed. The water pressure was beyond anything I’ve ever enjoyed in any US hotel and there was plenty of hot water to boot. The shower curtain instead of glass was the only disappointment. I would be happy to stay at this property the next time I am in LA.
